Nintendo letting publishers bring their own online networks to Wii U. But will Nintendo itself still use friend codes? #pleasegodno #yeahprobably
  • We're back from a short respite. Today was a busy day for gaming despite the beginning of the summer games drought.
  • Reports are coming in that Sony may soon start using an online pass system to monetize their used game sales. The PSN Pass has been spotted on packaging for Resistance 3. It's not like you didn't see this coming. It was only a matter of time before a platform holder joined EA, THQ, and WB Games. I swear to God if Microsoft tries this I'll freak the f*** out and cancel my Xbox Live subscription on the spot. (Nah, I wouldn't do that. I paid for the year!)
  • A Ms. 'Splosion Man product listing was spotted on Steam today. It was promptly discounted by 75% and then pulled from the digital distribution store.
We're a small operation here at Game Revolution. We do everything we can to bring you every bit of news possible. Unfortunately, we can't cover everything that happens in a day. We've been using our Twitter account to catch up at a bite-sized pace, but not everyone hears from us on Twitter either! So that's why you're reading The News. Every headline we didn't cover with our witty, fantastic words, wrapped up nicely for your digestion. Everyday we'll continue to deliver the hottest news and tie a nice little bow on everything else for you in the evening.

The sooner console-makers and publishers can take away the used games market from retailers, the better.

I can't remember the last time I bought a used game. I'm getting used to it. I prefer all new anyways. Maybe if I go back and start collecting games from this generation at half.com it'll start to bother me, but until then I don't care.

The last used games I bought were the first two Ratchet and Clank games for the PS2. I had fond memories of playing them new and got a hankering to play them again. About a year ago, I went to Gamestop and picked them up. Got them home and neither one would work right. They both kept getting stuck on the same loading screens every time I'd try to play them. Returned them and got a new copy of Dead Space instead.

I don't buy used games all that much, but I do sometimes. The used game market has been around a long time, so why the big rush to capitalize on it and make players who want to play online pay extra for buying used?

Because these big publishers are constantly pushed to raise revenues. Used game sales are just a target they've chosen to attack lately. I wonder how many people actually buy the pass if they've picked up a used game.

Lame, used games and trading games with friends are a time-honored part of video game culture and big companies are taking that away.

As a PC gamer, I don't really see the point in used games anymore unless it's something rare I can't get anywhere else. With the way Steam prices older games, there's no real point in buying used unless I want the physical copy or they don't have it.

If I had a console that I cared about I'd probably change my mind though.

I'll agree with you, but unfortunately PSN and XBL are nowhere near that pricing and discount system.

Can't these companies choose a more rational approach?

BURN DOWN ALL THE GAMESTOP STORES! THEY SMELL LIKE OLD FOOT CHEESE ANYWAY!
