The People Speak - Sh** Sucks

Posted on Wednesday, January 9 @ 17:38:27 Eastern by

The second week of 2013 continues The People Speak's rebirth. Whether we're talking about new gaming hardware out of CES or the role violent video games play in societies great tragedies, you're here, you're ready to share your thoughts and opinions and we're ready to listen.

Remember, give your fellow commenters a thumbs up or a thumbs down. That's all it takes to promote your favorite/most hated comments into our weekly freakshow spotlight. Let's get to this week's top comments:

Connecticut Town Organizes Video Game Burning Event
10 Thumbs Up - 0 Thumbs Down

If this isn't being done as a way of saying that video games were the sole reason for the shooting at Sandy Hook, then why aren't movies and other forms of violent media being burnt? Adam Lanza was well above the age limit to purchase mature rated video games and I don't know of any portion of a video game where you drive to the middle of a small town in America and shoot children at an elementary school.

Steam Box To Run On Linux, 2013 Launch Confirmed
9 Thumbs Up - 0 Thumbs Down

Italion193 - I participated in the beta and didn't like it at all. It is currently selling worse and has similar feedback to when Vista first came out. The only plus is its more affordable price tag.

I work in IT and it's been difficult enough to convert clients from Windows XP to Windows 7. I think it'll be absolutely impossible to justify Windows 8.

Windows 7 was great and I recommend just sticking with it.

What Are You Playing? January 4th, 2013
7 Thumbs Up - 0 Thumbs Down

When I played the previous Dead Space games, I was in a cold garage in the dark night of winter with surround sound headphones, so every once in a while my gf would sneak up and scare the sh** out of me.

Civilization V. I enjoy a good game that doesn't really require me to have sound for so that I can listen to my own music while playing. Think I'll listen to Meddle by Pink Floyd and Discovery by Daft Punk while playing. Maybe some Yes or Tame Impala too.

Pissy Hackers Force Top-Ranked Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Player To Reset Stats

That's crap, and I don't know how anyone here could feel anything but bad for the guy. Harassment sucks, period.

I hope when LawnGnome references Yes, he really means a loop of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "I've Seen all Good People".

Not quite sure what you're implying, but I listened to the Yes albums "Close to the Edge" and "The Yes Album". "And You And I" is probably my favorite Yes song.

The easiest way to discover the best songs of a band are to tell a fan that they have only one good one.

What do you think of "Relayer"? (Incidentally, I think "Heart of the Sunrise" is my favorite Yes song. Someone mentioned bass, and it's a good song for bass, too.)

Chuni, you know I love you. Why do you think I'd snub you?

Comments rated at equal values are not organized the way you might think. Your comments was ranked at number 11 this week (due to many comments rated with 7 thumbs up).

I would have rather stuck to the nomination system....

Looking at the back end, I think I've got a solution to the problem you have here Chuni. This is just the second week back, so expect it to improve (like every other weekly feature around here).

Tame impala eh? Say, how well known are they in the states? They're pretty big in aus since they're from here but I'm just curious about whether or not other countries care about Australian music

Both of their albums were on a lot of Album of the Year lists in the US & UK. Don't know why anyone would care whether they're from Australia or not, it's not like there's a didgeridoo player in the band. They are one of my favorite current bands right now though and Kevin Parker is the best thing to happen to psychedelic rock in decades.

I just gave Dan's comment a thumbs up, so that should put an end to the controversy. Sorry LawnGnome, is just that I can relate with Dan's comment because oftentimes when I'm with my headphones someone will sneak up on me. Now, I don't get scared, I get startled initially, immediately followed by Hulk inducing rage. Moral of the story: do not sneak up on me :P

I realize your point but in actuality people like me are freelancers I don't work for GR full time, 40+ hours a week I work at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. This is the case for most of our writers/contributors. I don't make a ton of money from my work on this site but I like gamerevolution because it feels more like a community then other sites. The only thing that separates us from you guys is a red highlight and the luck of getting the chance to write articles/reviews because we managed to break into gaming journalism on our spare time. Our writers don't have staff meetings every morning, we don't pander to non-gaming audiences, and many people contributing to this site aren't full-time employees. We love gaming as much as you guys and I'd like to think that everybody on our staff is on the same level as our readers.

    Unless your not a robot...
