After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

The People Steam - Forget Your Keys, Hoverboards Are The Future Of Transportation

Posted on Wednesday, October 2 @ 19:30:00 PST by

This week, people were excited about a game that, at least in its current state, is no more fun than waiting in line at the m***** f***** Department of Motor Vehicles. If you went to the DMV instead of trying to play Grand Theft Auto Online, you'd have more fun because you'd have the pleasure of guessing at which number appears on TV next.

Thankfully we have comments and thankfully those comments have ElusiveQuail who secured the top spot in our weekly TPS Report. Saving time and money, now that's Progressive Commenting. Sorry... is it clear that I just renewed a bunch of stuff for my car?

Remember to tell us your favorite Pokémon and send something to the podcast mailbag. Just e-mail podcast@gamerevolution.com or tweet at us @Game_Revolution. The mailbag isn't completely empty, but it's very light this week and Anthony and I will be answering your questions on air tomorrow.

Microsoft Reportedly Running Halo 4 On PC And Windows Phone Via Cloud

I'll save some people some trouble...
"... But what's the subscription fee?"
"... Until they pull a Microsoft 180!"
"... Copying PlayStation. They will do it better anyhow because of -insert impossible to prove reason here-"
"... With advertisements! Lol"
"... Now I can RRoD my phone, too!"
"... This is dumb because I won't use this and therefore no one will."

Forget Xbox One And PS4, Steam Is The Future Of Console Gaming

11 Up - 1 Down

I dare to differ!

Steam OS would give PC the simplicity of a console without the fuss. Sure, Steam OS would be devoid of Word, Excel, Photoshop and million other programs you use on Windows, however Steam OS would be entirely multimedia oriented with focus on gaming. Windows isn't exactly casual and takes a lot of resources to run, resources that could be used for games in stead. You wouldn't need as powerful PC for games as you need on Windows.

Steam OS and Steam Machines would make PC gaming as easy as console gaming with all the benefits PC has. Moreover, operating systems can be dual booted which means you can have both Windows and Steam OS. One you use for production and the other for consuming media.

But the one problem Steam OS faces is the backwards compatibility. I don't think it will be. Unless they emulate Windows for Windows specific games.

Microsoft Xbox One Will Have "More Than 10-Year Journey"

Watching my friend having tons of fun playing an awesome game while I sit there bellyaching at his "low res sub 30fps" experience would make my stomach turn also.

Forget Xbox One And PS4, Steam Is The Future Of Console Gaming

9 Up - 0 Down

I'm not convinced. The Steam service has a lot going for it as it is, but this is a whole new kettle of fish. Making the equivalent of a Steam console is going to be a serious uphill climb. The whole point of console gaming is that it is a budget alternative to a PC. If you need to buy expensive hardware in order to use the new Steam OS, then it's not going to be an attractive alternative to a PS4 or Xbox1.

And folks like me who have an expensive gaming PC have everything we need already. All video cards have HDMI-out ports these days, so we can already plug into an HDTV if we want. And the Steam application for Windows runs perfectly well. What need do we have for a new OS? Particularly when that new OS is likely to be lacking many of the features Windows currently offers.

Bottom line is that, as it stands, the Steam OS doesn't seem like an attractive alternative for either consoles or PCs.
