Video Game News In 1999 and 2012

Posted on Friday, August 3 @ 13:42:25 Eastern by

I honestly don't have much to add to this video except that it is 100% accurate. 1999 was full of hope and dreams and backwards compatibility and the Sega Dreamcast. 2012 is full of cynicism, leaks, and the Xbox 360. "Oh, that fucking sucks."

Oh VMUs! Wireless controllers! EGM! What happened to you?

The internet. That's what happened.

The internet was around in 1999. Besides, wouldn't it be more fair to look at people who make this stuff, not the average joe with practically zero impact on the business?

Sad, but true. The golden era of gaming was in the 90's.

That's why I always groan when people say that "20XX" is going to be the best year in gaming. 1999 kicked a millennium of ass.

Yeah! If I want to balloon up to 500 pounds and waste every cent of the government welfare money I earn by doing so... Then I will!

It's really more depressing, hence the awkward ending I think.

Doug Stanhope does a bit about how everyone thinks everything was better in the past, but it really wasn't, you were just young then so life didn't suck as much. Gaming now compared to gaming in the 90's....I'm going to call that an exception to his rule. 90's 4 Life.

That computer in the 1999 skits looks exactly like my first computer...

And yeah, it was real easy to get excited back then with all the new gimmicks and features and developers at least delivered on them.

I chalk it up the being 4 in 1999. I'm sure most 14 year old think 2007 was the greatest year in gaming.

The Dreamcast rocks my socks. I'm working on getting a VGA up-converter so I can play my games in "closer to HD" quality. The only thing I need after that is a wireless controller...

Just got a Dreamcast and Power Stone off of Craigslist. 1999 was a good year indeed. Oh, and I'm looking forward to this sometime next year:

This was pretty funny. I totally feel the same way they do in the video. Everything seemed new and exciting back then, even nintendo products! Now the gaming industry to continually pisses me off and drives me to buy less and get excited over less.

    World needs more Dreamcast.

Oh well. At least I can still be psyched about the release of Jet Set Radio a decade later.
