Video Games Can Be Work Too

Posted on Thursday, October 7 @ 23:04:16 Eastern by
My review assignment this week was Front Mission Evolved, which I just finished. Gaming never felt like as much work as it did just now.

Don't take it the wrong way. I love playing video games. I love writing about video games. And reviewing video games is neat too. Sometimes though, I'll have to put hours into a game I would never have even picked up myself.

When it's a game like Monday Night Combat, that's just peachy! Dead Rising 2 was fun too!

I've been reviewing solidly for a year now and everything has been going smoothly. There were times when gaming in my free time felt like work so the load hasn't been too bad. I don't want to sound disingenuous, or like I don't know there's tons of people who'd happily step into my place but, when you're on a deadline, and you've got three hours of a game left, things just drag! I'll have my full review of Front Mission Evolved in tomorrow.

I'm interested to read the review. It's been a long time since the last MechWarrior game, and I need my giant military robot fix. Since the MW franchise isn't likely to come back anytime soon, this may fit the bill. I'm not sure about the fast rollerblading Mechs, they're supposed to be big and lumbering. The near future setting will be a nice change from the distant future / distant planet.

I loved front mission's controls, gameplay in general. My main gripe is it was entirely too short. I haven't touched multiplayer yet but still like I said, loved the gameplay :) The final fight with the reoccurring d-bag villain is also a gripe, one of the most truly broken boss battles I have ever faced.

Didn't they just announced the reboot for Mechwarrior a while ago, UpAndAtThem? There's also the Mechwarrior: Living Legends mod for Crysis.
