I'm back, and there's a doosy in my inbox from my brother-in-law. Low profile, but still on shelves PC adventure game Limbo of the Lost turns out to just be a montage of stolen environments and other assets from all kinds of sources.
Ok, so the "dispatches" thing failed miserably. Hacker-proof failsafes ruined my hotel connections. Not that i could talk about much anyway - almost everything was embargoed until July 15th (the first day of E3). I can talk about Dead Space as of today... it was cool, and I shot some gross looking things. Hint: aim for the limbs. It's the only shooter where head and body shots are very, very bad.
I also played (and have video of) a lot of stuff I can't say anything about, including Fallout 3, Mercenaries 2, Spore, Lego Batman, Mirror's Edge, Force Unleashed, Resident Evil 4 5, Street Fighter 4,376 Turbo Ultra Zeta, and many more. They all exist.
However, today is all about Limbo of the Lost, the most egregious case of game plagiarism... ever. Characters, scenes, icons, and menu items were lifted from just about anything you can find, including (mostly) Oblivion, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament, Diablo II, Enclave, Thief: The Dark Project, Thief: Deadly Shadows, a CryENGINE2 Tech Demo, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Sea Dogs, Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, Hexen, Rune, Black & White 2, World of Warcraft. Not to mention clips and images grabbed from the terrible Spawn movie and a Betelgeuse poster.
Wikipedia, as usual, has a comprehensive document here.
The trailer follows, including the clip of someone falling through flames into Hell stolen from the Spawn movie (at 2:40).

This looks like the worst game in history - at least, the worst game since The Crow.

Uwe Boll makes an attempt at a video game?
I'm interested to (eventually) hear about Mercenaries 2. Can you at least give me a thumbs up or thumbs down? |

What does the flaming text remind me of? Diablo II? Nah.
Did you get to play "The Force Unleashed"? |

Well, once again the theory that 'the whole is less than the sum of its parts' is proven true. I barely watched a minute of that trailer, and I already have been severely put off of playing it, let alone buying it.

Holy ****. This has to be a joke or something, the game looks at least 12 years old. Even back then, I say it would be a massive failure

Oh man please get a copy of this game just so I can read how badly you tear it apart in the review! It looks like it put that extra effort into being a bad game and gave its whole 110%. These guys have a lot to learn when it comes to making a videogame. MAYBE if it were made around 15 years ago it would have been impressive.

For serious, this looks like it was made by a five year old who just picked up his first demo of Poser Studio.

Anyone else enjoy the compass spinning around throughout the video. Its good to know the gameplay fails before you even play it.

No, that just means that your character is equipped with both a compass and a powerful magnet.

Wow, I remember hearing about this. I heard it was only an environment from Oblivion, though; this is just ridiculous.

The main programmer on, Steve Bovis, it didn't even know how to code. Look up his SBovis profile on the Wintermute (the engine used to make the game) forums, and you'll see that he had to ask for help with every little thing. He basically had the members there write most of it for him.

Wow. I guess they were hoping that their game was so low-budget, and awful, that no one would look closely enough at it to notice.

At least he only spoke like he was reading from a script without any comprehension of the theme, mood or atmosphere of which the character was supposed to be in. A real grade A piece of work. Sorta like finding out your daughter's boyfriend is some homeless guy she found off the street.

Look at the system requirements. 256 MB RAM? 64MB video card? It's like the game was started 10 years ago, forgotten about, and the blanks were filled in with random rip-offs. Could this be a strong contender for Game Revolution's second F- ?

It turns out it HAS been in development for 15 years. In fact, it was originally planned for the Amiga (and even then it was copying off games out at the time!). I guess we can expect Duke Nukem Forever to copy off every FPS in the past 10 years when it finally comes out.

There was a wrenching pain in my gut that started about the time I pressed play for that video, can't say they're related, but can't rule it out either.
