"I can roam the waters of Azeroth in WoW quite happily, but I **** myself when doing such things like meeting Oacha'noa." - Melaisis

Since the link to the Vox Pop has been unceremoniously removed, it would only be just to relay the rules of the contest once more. Vox Pop is a contest where you, our GR members, write editorials as blog entries. During any given month, GR chooses several of these editorials to be featured in the Vox Pop box on the front page and as a worthy entry into the contest. At the end of that month, we will choose three winners from the list of Vox Pop entries, with two runner-ups given $25 (or US-equivalent) Amazon.com gift certificates and one winner given a $50 (or US-equivalent) Amazon.com gift certificate.

Winner: Melaisis
Title: "Fear of Large, Underwater Monsters in Videogames"

Comment: Thank you for exposing our closeted fear of fish, squid, and giant crabs. I don't play horror games, because I don't like being, well, horrified, but the only thing close to Thalasso-Meglo-Itchtyo-phobia that I have had in a video game was when I was inside Jabu-Jabu's belly in Ocarina of Time. Dungeons with bodily fluids and squishy tissue make me queasy. In fact, just thinking about *blaerghggghhhgghgh*

Runner-Up: TheDiesel
Title: "Get Over Yourself People, It's Just Guitar Hero"

Comment: To be frank, the whole Kurt Kobain debacle has been blown way our of proportion and doesn't deserve more than a few sentences. Now you can blame Activision for giving people the option to have Kurt sing songs that he didn't sing in real life (though the idea of him singing a cover shouldn't be too hard to imagine). Even if Activision has the rights to his likeness, how they use his likeness should be under scrutiny - it's a part of taking video games seriously. But really, if the people who signed Kurt's likeness away didn't ask any questions beforehand, they weren't fooled - they were just inept.

I can see how people can be offended by it, and I don't mind them speaking their minds about it. It's when they force everyone else to agree with their offense that irks me. No one is forcing people to have Kurt play cover songs - if you find it offensive, just don't do it. You can tell people not to do it either, but don't make them agree with you by making Activision remove the feature.

Runner-Up: axleblaze
Title: "Everyone needs to shut the hell up about 2D sonic"

Comment: The main complaint by Sonic fans is that there hasn't been a Sonic title on a main platform like the Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii that is completely 2D. Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance are handheld titles that don't have the presence (read: sales numbers) of a stand-up console title, especially when the perception of the Sonic brand is now a three-dimensional mess. But it's true that there are Sonic fanboys that somehow miss the fact that 2D Sonic titles have never really left. Also, as you said, there's no guarantee that a 2D Sonic game, as it has been hinted by the next Sonic title's teaser site, will save the franchise from black knights and werehogs. *shudder* Of course, a 2D Sonic game is a good start; unlike Mario, Sonic is all about speed and that gets him in trouble when you're talking about 3D platforming that requires tricky maneuvering and various camera angles. In fact, a Sonic Reset is what really needs to happen.

After trying to buy R&CF: A Crack in Time off of Amazon, I hope I never win a Vox Pop contest.
