DAILY MANIFESTO

Wahlberg, De Niro and Pesci to Star in Uncharted Movie

Posted on Wednesday, November 24 @ 10:00:34 Eastern by

When Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for the PlayStation 3 launched last fall, it was met with high praise from critics for its cinematic presentation. Every minute of the game played more like a blockbuster movie than your average video game, making it a perfect candidate for a silver-screen adaptation.

David O. Russell, who is mostly known for his work in Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees was recently named to be director. Other than that, not much else is known about the upcoming Uncharted flick... Until now.

Funky Bunch lead-man turned actor, Mark Wahlberg, has confirmed his starring role as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Rumors had been floating around regarding possible roles for both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, which Wahlberg also confirmed to be true:

"I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."

Uncharted's theme of hunting for forgotten treasure certainly opens up the opportunity to explore other areas of the game's lore, but we can't help but feel that De Niro and Pesci would stick out like a sore thumb. That is unless Russell is planning on turning Uncharted into a gangster movie.

I always just assumed that Fillion was who Drake was modeled after, so naturally he would play the part. Big names hardly equal a great movie. Well said smazeika.....

No, it couldn't be Nathan Fillion. Remember, Nathan Fillion is awesome and movies based on video games have almost always blown. There's no way someone could do that to him.

^ I find no flaw in UglykitteN's logic.
