Watch GTA IV with GTA V Graphics

Posted on Thursday, June 23 @ 16:19:15 Eastern by

With a PC mod named enb, Grand Theft Auto IV can be enhanced with graphics of a Grand Theft Auto V, if that game will even be as visually stunning as the above YouTube video (up to 720p) for the mod is. Now, before we all drop our jaws in awe, it's important to note there are no moving character models anywhere, which can easily dampen the graphics.

The enb settings were at their maximum, at a resolution of 3840x2160p (downsampled to 1920x1080p) and at an average of 28 frames per second. The specs for the computer is an Intel Core i7 950, Rampage III motherboard, 3x 2G DDR3 1333mhz RAM, 1 GPU Sparkle GTX 480 GDDR5 1536MB 384bit, 1 GPU INNO 3D GTX 275 GDDR3 1792MB 448bit, and a Corsair TX 750W PSU.

Very impressive. If they optimize that sucker to put pedestrians on the street I'm going to have to time take out of Arma 2 and DCS A10 to give it a shot. Any word on what the ultimate goal is of this mod though? Are they making a whole new game, or are they hoping to just upgrade the graphics of the existing GTAIV? Even if the latter, I haven't been this excited to replay a game I've already had since the Freespace open source project.

Except at the end of the video.

I thought it looked pretty good still once they were added in.

Kidding aside, it did look impressive near the end. I only wished that the cities also had people walking around. Otherwise, it's like those car commercials set in empty city streets that talk about its maximum horsepower.

The lighting is fantastic, aside from the trees it almost looks photo-realistic. And there's something eerie about driving around an empty, unpopulated city. Feels more last man on earth than GTA.
