E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling
Posted on 06/15/13
E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

What Are You Playing? 10/08/2011

Posted on Saturday, October 8 @ 10:00:00 Eastern by

Hey... I was wondering... Whatcha playing?

This weekend I've managed to catch a breather between megaton-reviews. Last weekend I was feverishly powering my way through enough Dark Souls to judge it and mowing down mutants in RAGE, but this weekend I might dial it back, enjoy a little Battlefield 3 beta before it closes next week, and maybe even start a second playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Let us know in the comments and if you're looking to play some multiplayer, drop your online ID in there too.

What are you playing this weekend?

For What are you playing? in the middle of the week, head to this forum thread.

    Slowly getting revenge on Dan.

I would have been satisfied if I would've gotten that knife kill when you were on the ground. Didn't work though.

    BF3, hoooooo!

I almost rage quit. I tried to knife you like 5 times right then.

Your team had some of the best defenders I've ever seen though.

Dark Souls. Just beat a boss that had been giving me trouble for like two days. At least 10-15 attempts or so. Felt so good but now i'm terrified to move on because I know whats ahead can only be worse.

Laid up from leg surgery, painfully waiting for some good new games to arrive. Next week I will be playing Might & Magic Heroes 6, have played the beta 100 times by now. Then Arkham City. And 11/11/11 cant come soon enough...

but for now? Dusted off the old PS3 to play inFamous, one of my 2 free games from Sony. Thanks Sony. Turns it, its a pretty kick ass game. just about to throw Red Faction Armageddon in, won from good ol' haiku friday. I dont expect it to be as much fun as inFamous.

Man I'm finding myself more and more excited for Arkham City. It looks like it'll be fantastic but I'm sure it'll get overshadowed by some other releases following soon after it.

Portal 2 and Rift. I started playing Rift when they did the free week for their six month anniversary and decided to stick around to at least level 50. So far what I've seen of end game doesn't impress me, so I don't think I'll keep playing after my three month sub runs out. Portal 2 is just awesome though.

I recently picked up the Borderlands GOTY edition. Just finished the Robolution and Dr. Ned expansions and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'm almost done with Knoxx's Armory and from what I've heard of The Underdome, I'm not yet worthy of trying it.

League of Legends, just for the daily IP win extra. KOTOR 1 & 2 so that I'm really feeling it when SWTOR comes out. Curses to those in the beta. I was one of those who got the bogus tester e-mails from BW too! Ahhh!

There's definitely a learning curve with League of Legends, but it's way easier to pick up imo than something like Starcraft 2 or other like real time strategy. As a MOBA It's a lot easier for me to manage my one Champion unit and work with 4 other main units than deal with army Building, structures and resource gathering. I'm terrible at RTS though. Leagues sucked a bit of cash away from me as a f2p game without regret.

My advice: Try different champions. You'll eventually find some that you're really good at. Me & my friends have been playing LoL a ton, but there's still some champions that we plain just suck at playing. Also, I'm proud of the fact that I've managaed to spend $0 on this game. My friends, however, cannot say the same.

I'd also recommend at least skimming through a champion guide for the character you're wanting to use as they go into a bit of detail about strengths and weaknesses. There's a rating system making it easier to sort through, but you don't have to take anyone's build as concrete. I prefer leaguecraft . com but mobafire is good too. Also the new Dominion Mode is quite a bit more fast paced with little focus on farming so you may enjoy it more.

I've been playing LoL lately too! Mostly games against bots, but I have played a few PvP games and I'm getting better. So far my favorite champion is Tristana. I find her play style to be really fun and accessible.

Just finished building my roommates computer, now new part by part, only to find that the monitor is sh*t but process of elimination. Been playing Rage on PS3, I have a lot of good things to say about it but I have a lot of issues with it too. The character art is so much better than Fallout, but the dialog isn't. The shotgun combat is some of the best I've played in a single-player fps, but switching between weapons and ammo takes some getting used too. Enemy AI is awesome and incredibly mobile with it's jumping and dodging, but I can't jump or climb over anything above maybe knee-length. I think I'm going to trade for Dark Souls once I beat it on Nightmare difficulty honestly.

I'm currently giving Rage a try. It kind of reminds me of Borderlands and I'd like a lot more shooting and so far it's been a lot more driving. Waiting on Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 as my only 2 games I'm buying till next summer barring any insanely good deals at Best Buy during Boxing Week.

I played the first few hours of Assassin's Creed years ago, but just beat #2 recently. It was good enough that I'm going back to the first to fill in story gaps before moving on to Brotherhood. Yeah, that's right... all you fancy pants people and your new releases.

I finished Beyond Good & Evil HD this weekend. I loved every minute of it.

After that, I went back to Dead Island. Unlocking all the skulls and hitting level 32. Currently at chapter 8.

In between I did a little co-op Halo ODST with my next door neighbour. So far we worked our way through Halo: CE, Halo 2 and ODST together. I was surprised to learn that he never played Halo before we started doing co-op play, and he is keen on doing Halo 3 and Reach next.

As for the future: I'm looking forward to Batman: Arkham City later this month.

I'm just twiddling my thumbs (and by that I mean replaying AC: Brotherhood to prep for Revelations) until Arkham City... unfortunately I am going to be ridiculously busy with work for the next month so I think AC and UC3 are gonna be put on a back burner for now...
