What Are You Playing? December 1st, 2012

Posted on Saturday, December 1 @ 10:30:00 Eastern by

As I said on the podcast, I'm tripping on jungle drugs all weekend long. Far Cry 3 is the final major release this year and I'm putting a mushroom in place of a cherry on top of this busy review season. Phew! Didn't think we'd make it through, but when all is said and done 2012 has gone off without a hitch.

That said, the rain is hitting the window in real life and in Inaba, where I've only got a few months to go. Hard to believe I'm already past the 50 hour mark, but it is what it is. Yet again I'd rather it didn't end. Is there a way I can just play on and on after it's over? I think I already see the end coming.

Have you ever just left a game so you know you could always go back to it? Anyway...

What are you playing?

Spec Ops: The Line (I got it for only $5!)
    New Super Mario Bros. U
    PlanetSide 2
    Assassin's Creed III

I'm still debating between getting Black Ops II for PC or Wii U. The PC will have better graphics but the Wii U will have fantastic local co-op and Miiverse. Hmm...

I'm revoking your PC-gamer card if you get it for the Wii U.

I just beat Borderlands 2, I'm finishing up The Walking Dead, and I'm going to revisit XCOM & Batman: AC for the PC.

I wasn't aware there were cards.

Local co-op is garbage on PC and that's a pretty large con.

The only local "co-op" is Zombies and that's a truly awful, and uneventful experience.

You should get it on PC. I don't see the Wii U version staying alive for very long. It's disappointing that I can't even get into a Party Game match on Wii U.

Works for me! I prefer smaller trees (if at all). They're easier to pick up and throw away and they take a lot less time to decorate. Plus, the presents seem bigger and more numerous under a smaller tree by comparison.

it started a bit roughly since there was trouble with servers before the weekend stuff started (i got admitted into beta proper) and then players from EU couldn't log into servers for about half hour into the weekend event. Game plays well, especially when there is a good number of people in the area, which was really fun when The Chosen drop pod would appear in the vicinity and you got to watch a crowd of people rush towards it. It looked even better during the in-game night when projectiles would flash through the darkness, accompanied by the intense flashes of jet pack thrusters. quest wise only a short quest chain is available for now, along with two types of random event missions an of course fighting off the Chosen attacks, as well as regaining control of areas taken by them (which requires larger groups of players cooperating). PvP also works fine, haven't played much of it but i didn't have any trouble while I did.

I finished P4G yesterday (the first JRPG I ever finished! Woohoo!), so I went on to the Vita PS+ freebies, starting with Uncharted. Aside from all the touchy-swipy bullshit, it's pretty good. I love how the gyroscope compensates for the analog sticks' lack of precision when aiming.
Also a bit of Hitman Absolution, but I still haven't played a lot of it.

Is P4 Arena accessible to people like me who swore off fighting games because Shao Khan made me want to snap my Vita in two? The story intrigues me.

P4 Arena is definitely accessible. Just don't expect to have any fun online. Easy difficulty is suitably easy.

And congrats on the JRPG finish! These days they're rare enough and long enough that it's an accomplishment just to see the end.

I say skip The Answer and finish P3P before you go on to P4A. I haven't played The Answer for myself but I really hate it based on the plot summary alone.

I recommend playing The Answer only if you enjoy the dungeon crawling, because you'll find no Social Links there. Basically, it's 30 hours of hardcore Tartarus with some story thrown in (I liked it, though). If you choose not to play it, at least read a summary or watch the cutscenes on Youtube to be completely ready for P4A's story mode.

I'm trying to decide what games from my Steam collection to install on the new SSD. I have a few that I haven't played, and a few others that I play occasionally. Right now I have about 150GB of unused space to work with. Basically, I'm playing the download game.

Played through comic jumper. I might start another XBLA game from the backlog next. And my Black Ops 2 came from Amazon warehouse... but they sent the PS3 version instead of Xbox. Since I have the PS3 too I checked out the multiplayer, but not wanting to put too much time into leveling since I'll be returning it soon and possibly getting the xbox version.

I guess this is probably a good place to ask this question. The last COD I owned was COD4:MW. Which one should I get out of MW 1-3 or BO 1-2? Should I go with BO2 to get the newest, or is there a standout one that seems better? I realize this is subjective, just trying to get some opinions though.

They are all pretty similar, with the most people playing blops2 matchmaking will be easiest there, and the Pick 10 system they use for load outs is the best so far

Modern Warfare 3 is definitely better than 2, and a lot less broken. Black Ops is better than MW2, but I'd suffice to say it's not as exciting as MW3, and it's a lot slower paced. The campaign is better though. Black Ops II has the *potential* to be the best CoD yet, but the multiplayer has so many issues and you most likely won't enjoy it unless you have a couple of friends. The campaign is the best since World at War.

'the best campaign since world at war'?

I'm guessing you didn't play that game on veteran, i'd be surprised if you didn't play it at all. I know it probably seems good on lower difficulties, but on veteran it's very clear just how astonishingly poorly designed that game was.

I have yet to play a single Call of Duty game that is enjoyable on Veteran, it's artificial difficulty. It was fun. That's all I care about. Played the whole thing in four player co-op and loved every minute of it.

Also I did use my Wii U briefly to set everything up and update the console before putting it away and wrapping it up for christmas. It's an absolute mess!..... my feelings are I mean. For everything I love about it, there's a problem. The screen on the gamepad looks gorgeous, but it gets uncomfortable in my hands after a while. I like how the home menu works, but it can be hard to navigate. I'm ****ing over the moon about the community forums at the touch of a screen, but everything takes way too long to load. I'm not letting my hopes get shattered before I even play it properly, but these problems are going to keep annoying me.

Finally finished AC3 last week, than moved on to Spec Ops: The Line, finished it today and was incredibly impressed by the amazing story. Definitely my favorite shooter in recent memory (perhaps ever, but I'm a huge sucker for narrative driven games) and just got started on Dishonored. I'm a masochist, so I'm attempting a no-kill, no-detection playthrough on very hard my first time around, because I apparently hate myself.

Currently playing ZombiU on the Wii U, while also playing some New Super Mario Bros. (although I'll be giving that back to my friend shortly, so I'll just have ZombiU). I really want to pick up Farcry 3 (but still deciding for PS3 or PC). I was playing Hitman: Absolution but I got distracted by ZombiU... and before that, I was playing Pokemon: Black and White 2 (black version) but got distracted by Hitman: Absolution. Ugh, first world problems? :P

I'm REALLY tempted to buy Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition for the Wii U.

    I am so sad.

im kinda late to the party but... BF3 PREMIUM... the new maps & modes are fantastic!!!
ive always enjoyed BF map packs more than any other shooter... they always feel like a new game experience... and not just another map...
(cant wait to check out the AFTERMATH pack tomorrow)

also still playin HALO 4 MP, and im gonna finally do some spartan ops...

also my $10 copy of WITCHER 2 just came in the mail so ill be starting that soon...

( i was excited when i opened it, came with a map, a 80+ page quest handbook, and a actual game booklet w/30+ pages)
it may not be much to some people, but i personally really miss game booklets... i feel its kinda cheap & lazy on the developers part for discontinuing them...
