What Are You Playing? December 22nd, 2012

Posted on Saturday, December 22 @ 12:53:22 Eastern by
I'm on vacation right now, so I'll keep this brief. I couldn't help but check in on everyone for our weekly WAYP.

I'm playing Dark Souls (PS3): I've still got some early parts of the game memorized, but playing as a Pyromancer and lighting mother f***ers on fire is so satisfying this time around.
I'm playing Borderlands 2 (PC): the writing and speed are much improved. I might spend more than an hour on this, but I'll have to see if anyone else is online and willing to join my Zero.
I'm playing Persona 4: Golden (Vita): I still love this game soooo much. The characters are incredibly endearing. Just max'd the Hierophant S. Link, but I'm nervous about rejecting Yumi. I only have one more level to go with her and I'm not willing to cheat on Yukiko with her.
I'm playing more, but I'm trying to focus on these games.

What are you playing?

Well, once the Civ gets under you skin it's there to stay. If you liked Civ 3 get Civ 5 on sale without all the expansions, if you like it get the expansions. But if your itching to take over the world go for it get it all at once. (You also can get Civ 4 complete.)

Just finished FC3. Was a good game. Started off great but kind of tailed off throughout. I'll be playing a bit of LoL and DOTA 2 through the week and some 3ds when I go home for Christmas.

I WOULD be playing Halo 4 online but my account has been suspended because of a **** up on microsoft's end. I swear, if it weren't for Halo, i'd have microwaved my xbox by now. Since I can't play online, I've been playing through Combat Evolved Anniversary, and I played through the Halo 3 campaign again for funsies.

Have you ever checked out Good Old Game (GOG)? They have a ton of older games like Dungeon Keeper 2, Fallout 1&2, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and tons of others. I love it because it's like finding my childhood on sale.

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2): I’m up to Colossus #12 (for lack of time not of skill mind you :P). 12 and 13 are two of my favorites, 12 for the environment, 13 for how cool everything looks from way up in the air, so I want to take my time with them.
Illusion of Gaia (SNES): I played this game for the first time back in 2000, however I got stuck and never completed it. I just didn’t know how to get past a certain section. Fast-forward 7 years and finally I was able to determine what I was missing.
It took me another 5 years but I finally got around to playing it again. I’ve restarted it and I’m having a great time. The game does show its age, especially in the graphics department but it is still very enjoyable. I had forgotten about some of the play mechanics and frankly more RPGs should have done some of the stuff that this game does.
If you have never played it give it a go. I would say it’s more of an RPG “lite” with a very simple story but fun game mechanics. Finishing this game will certainly give me a sense of accomplishment seeing how long it has taken me. Nothing beats a great RPG.

The Real Texas, I picked it up from GOG last week on sale. It's really surprised me with how deep and rich the game is. It's a great experience and it's still on sale. Its a steal at ten dollars, and at $7.49 i'd say look into it. I'm also playing Dust 514 and keeping my eyes on the Steam sale as well.

Jade Empire on PC. Played the xbox version once long ago, and didn't remember a whole lot about it. Controls and combat are even worse than I remember. Surprisingly my xbox 360 controller is more awkward than using keyboard/mouse combo.

Also doing my yearly Resident Evil play sessions. So far, beat RE1 Jill on Original, and Chris on Arrange, and beat RE2 Claire A, Leon B. Working on Code Veronica now, and I'm skipping 3 and 5 because they are kinda crap. Don't own 6, not sure I ever will. Might do Silent Hill games after RE4.

Installed Crusader Kings 2 and it's amazing. Also needed to stop as it's deep and time consuming, and could easily eat 10 consecutive days if I let it. Civ5 today, and sneaking some Planetside 2 in when I can.

I keep avoiding Mass Effect 3 even though I am a huge fan of the first 2 games... Pre-ordered them, midnight release, all that good stuff. I just can't seem to work up the desire for 3 though, I just keep hearing its awful and it turns me off... of course, I realize this is a stupid thing to do considering that I adore Rage, Darksiders 2 and Dead Island, which get dumped on all the time, or maybe I just have a terrible sense of what's good.

I was the same as you but couldn't turn down an opportunity to buy it for $10.

My experience so far is that it's exactly like Mass Effect 2. They did very little to nothing to make it better. So it's still great, but I'm thinking it's the horrible ending that gave it negative feedback. That's little to deter any ME fan.

I'm playing Shadow of Chernobyl with the LURK mod and holy ****. It's honestly the feeling you get when they straight up remake a game you used to love and every aspect of it ends up better than it was. The graphics are actually good, the gun stats make more sense, there a ton more weapons and weapon mods, weird broken **** was fixed, there are a ton of new environmental effects. I'm basically rambling but holy gosh there is so much more improvement than I was expecting.

At the moment? Whatever point and click game demos I can find online. The disc drive on my 360 quit working and it won't open. I suspect this may be related to the fact that my system has been having difficulty reading any discs I've put in it over the past two weeks as well. It's an older system though, so it's definitely seen its share of wear and use (if I recall correctly, this was one of the systems that rolled off the line for the first batch of releases back in '05, so I'm amazed it's lasted this long). A friend of mine thinks he MIGHT be able to fix it, but if not I gotta shell out the cash for a new one. Sadface.
