What Are You Playing? December 29th, 2012

Posted on Saturday, December 29 @ 10:37:16 Eastern by

I'm not sure I'll be playing any games on New Year's Eve, but I will play games today and tomorrow. Mostly I'm focused on wrapping up anything I played but haven't finished this year. Unfortunately, there's not much to choose from. I still need to give Corvo his vengeance in Dishonored, but beyond that I've been very good about finishing what I start.

Lots of reviews, previews, events, tradeshows, controversies, and awards have come and gone, but now you should look back and marvel at how much gaming you got done this year. Thanks for making 2012 awesome here at GR! What could be coming next year?

What are you playing?

Finally done playing nice with the family, now time for Halo 4, Black Ops 2 and Skyrim. Plus gotta get around the humble indie bundle at some point. And playstation all stars once I round some people up!

Just picked up Far Cry 3 and I'm loving it. You know a game is good when you stay up until 6 in the morning playing it, only to get lectured by your gf about waking up too late in the day to spend quality time with her... And then do the same thing the next 2 nights in a row!

I think Episode 2 was my favorite. They were all great, but the middle of Episode 3 started to slow the story down a bit, and I don't think Episode 4 offered enough dialogue chances.

Ep 3 was an emotional roller coaster ride...... i have never been so emotionally involved with a game before *(possible spoiler)*When one of the saint john brothers grabbed Clem during ep 2 i literally lunged towards my laptop screen and proceeded to let him know in no uncertain terms that i would F"ing kill him.... then the dialogue gave me the choice to tell him this it was just meant to be.....

I liked the choices I was given in Episode 2. I think they carried the most weight and really challenged the player's morality. I felt so stupid afterwards that I got worried about whose station wagon that could be, but it really shows how well the game was written to absorb players like that. I also liked that Episode 4 had a lot more action-based choices rather than just dialogue choices or choices that weren't timed.

Almost done I think, played through it quite fast. Back in Detroit, just confronted Taggard and convinced his sidekick to not kill himself, moving on to what I expect to be the final part. Gonna play it again though, only guns blazing instead of stealth.

I've also been putting off DXHR since it came out and only just last week started it on the PC. Really good game. Love the cyberpunk setting/atmosphere. I'm to the same point as you, but have been playing a mix of stealth & guns blazing. Really hoping to see a sequel with better graphics & more overall polish in not too long.

I was thinking the same thing: love to have more but the game really needs to be polished up a little. And I can also relate to the mix of playing stealth or shooting, sometimes an alarm goes of and your just like, to hell with it lets shoot everybody. It's very satisfying nailing sombody through their head on the wall with a crossbow bolt = )

It's a difficult question. A sign of any good game is when you just want to keep playing it.
In that regard, it delivers. However, it can get tedious if you play for too long at a time.
Very dated graphics, a rather simple story (thus far), slow pacing and random battles
(although not too frequent and they're fun due to the combat system).
The music is very good, specially the first two hours or so btw.
I'd say I'm enjoying it, I'm glad to be playing it, I want to finish it but I've played better RPGs and probably won't want to play this one again once I'm done.

I started Spec Ops: The Line last week, so I'll probably get in to that a bit. I also started Arkham Asylum GoTY edition, so I have that to play as well. When I'm not playing those, I picked up a PS1 emulator for my phone and started playing FFVII on it. My phone has a full keyboard, so it's better than trying to play on a touch screen, but playing without a controller is a bit of a challenge. I wouldn't want to play an action game, but it works well enough for RPGs.

The Walking Dead! Never thought I'd enjoy a zombie game this much, every choice feels like it matters & I know I will do anything to protect Clementine.

I really liked Cole for most of the game, it was just when you find out that he completely randomly, inexplicably, and out of characterly cheats on his wife that I stopped liking him. I blame Team Bondi for not knowing how to develop a character properly.

Fair enough assessment. I didn't like Cole because he came off as randomly angry, such as when interviewing the rape victim, he very much had a "you had it coming" vibe and that turned me off.

I really like the story for ME1 and agree it's the better out of the three. It really works setting up the sequels or it could've ended with the first game and still been fullfilling.

If you don't have Gods and Kings, Green Man Gaming has it on sale now for $4.50. With Voucher code GMG30-DPLIM-DN831, you can get it down to $3.15. Steam activated. At that price there's no reason not to get it. The sale will probably only last a day or so.

I have way too many games to play. I've bought at least 100 this entire year, and I've barely touched most of them. Today I just bought The Last Story, Resonance, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Super Mario Galaxy, for instance. It's not for Christmas or anything, it's just...a terrible ****ing habit I have.

I went through a phase like that, too. I just wanted every decent game I saw, especially if the price was good. It took a lot of work to get out of that, and now I'm spending much less on games by trading stuff in. The value depreciates pretty quickly, but trading when there's bonuses or deals on trades, I generally save some cash. PowerUp is one of the only rewards cards I've used that actually saves me money.

Next time say "I don't actually even want this game, I just wanted an excuse to come talk to you" and you will save $9 and instead get a phone number for free!

Grow a pair dude. What's the worst that could happen? A little pepper spray, and a restraining order.

I heard that some day, a couple of years from now, they're going to have some live games based on NHL 13. I wonder if they'll be able to pull off a live-action version of something that is currently only a video game....

I just beat Mega Man 1 on the 3DS. I didn't want to buy it since it is linked to your console, but I wanted to support the fact that Capcom is actually DOING something with the Blue Bomber again.

Other than that, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and possibly The Walking Dead since I picked it up on the 360 for cheap. Do you need to be ultra caught up on the series / comic to understand it all?

The Walking Dead Ep. 1 was free on Xbox Live this week so I picked that up. It was very enjoyable, not at all what I was expecting.

I'm playing "Don't buy anything more on Steam" and I think I'm going to lose.

Playing Skyrim with mods makes it more fun. Civ IV and V.

I've got so much to play on Steam, BUT I HATE TO DOWNLOAD!

I'm starting to hate Steam downloads too...it makes the internet bill $80/mo :0 I hope the next-gen games aren't all 20-30 GB in size...

Planetside 2 for double XP, then a big Civ5 LAN game again, sprinkled with Crusader Kings 2 afterward to the wee hours of the morning.

Still at my parents' place, so I'm not doing a lot of gaming.
When I have time, I squeeze in a bit of P4G (2nd playthrough) and Binding of Isaac...
