What Are You Playing? February 23rd, 2013

Posted on Saturday, February 23 @ 13:42:18 Eastern by

I'm not playing anything this weekend, unless I get sucked back into Fire Emblem: Awakening. For whatever reason, I just want to keep pushing my characters to higher and higher levels until they mow down any competition that stands in their way.

But in the end I think I've made the game a bit of a grind and instead I'm going to be hanging out on the forums for hours on end this afternoon and evening. In fact, lots of the usual forum crowd will be hanging out in Misc. shooting the sh** and posting whatever they'd like. For more, check out this thread, which I posted earlier this week. If you don't plan on joining us...

What are you playing?

I'm hosting a 48-Hour Film Festival at my school. So far, there have been some really cool ideas, and we still have about 30 hours to go!

A measly six. We're a small liberal arts college, with about 2250 students, and no film program. Luckily, there were over thirty entrants, they just all decided to be friends and work together. It's late in our term, though, so a lot of people are busy. Three teams dropped out because they have term projects due on Monday haha.

I went to a tiny liberal arts school about 1200 total students. It wasn't until later that I realized I payed a ton of money to go to high school a second time.

Man, if it wasn't for some of the faculty here, I would have bailed a long time ago. While a lot of the students are lame *******s from upper-middle class suburban Chicago neighborhoods, the faculty miraculously still cares enough to have a vested interest in classroom and extracurricular education. It also helps that I'm older (25) because I went into the military first. So I'm slightly better at time management and not sucking at life. But only slightly. If anyone's interested, here's the link to our YouTube submissions:

For whatever reason, the only Metroid games I could ever get into were the Prime ones. I tried all of the 2D entries, but none of them grabbed me. I also never like Castlevania much, so maybe it just isn't my cup of tea.

Super Metroid and Castlevania: SOTN are among the peak of great games. Please try them both once more, just for me.

Prime is one of the only 2D to 3D franchise moves that I enjoyed.

I started Dragonborn, but I'm beginning to think I'm underleveled for it. I had to run like a scared little girl from the first dragon priest and the the first book monster I came across because they killed me in three hits. I'll wait until level 30 or so to come back. GO BACK TO SKYRIM, OUTLANDER!

I really do love the new equipment, though. Bloodskal Blade FTW!

Is the loot leveled to the rest of the game? Or are you super overpowered everywhere else?

There are unique items that aren't leveled (though they are affected by perks like everything else - the Bloodskal wouldn't be much use to you if you suck at two-handed), but most of the loot is leveled, so you wouldn't be able to get stahlrim armor at level three and break the whole game.

July 8, I may have to restart the play trough because I think I'm not strong enough to finished the Rise dungeon. I'll try a couple times, try to level up and then tackle the mid-dungeon boss again.

Back out of the Rise dungeon and run through the previous and you should be golden. Rise's dungeon has a big difficulty spike but you can beat it if you grind a little. Have you gone through the previous dungeons twice? There are bonus shadows after you rescue the person.

    League of Legends.

I was enjoying Fire Emblem: Awakening but honestly it just made me miss Final Fantasy Tactics. I pray that one day I'll find a game half as engrossing as FFT!

How could it make you miss FFT?! The systems are way more streamlined, the characters are more interesting and developed, the social systems make combat way more entertaining and puzzling since you have to arrange everyone properly to keep growing your team, and it's in 3DDDDDD.

I received the same reaction on NeoGaf. Honestly, I prefer the gameplay of FFT. I enjoy changing the classes of my team and being able to use several abilities. Fire Emblem has so few abilities and they're boring to unlock.

Additionally, I prefer the story of FFT. It's so epic and has so many moments that I'll never forget.

Ahhhh. They need to make another FFT for crying out loud!!

I'm up to what I believe is the final boss fight in metal gear rising. The game is awesome, but imperfect. My biggest complaint is the camera. In the future it will actually be enough for me to think "should I play rising today?..... Nah".

You can lock on to enemies and switch between them with the right trigger or R2 (depending on the console), but I agree. It never really caught everything on screen and honestly if the camera could have been implemented better then enemies would be able to attack at will and not play gentlemen just out of view.

I've tried locking on, but that will just make the learning curve a whole lot bigger because idealy i'd have to use my rude finger for R2 and my index finger for R1 since i'll often want to use both at the same time. That would be okay if the game was a whole lot longer and gave you more time to learn everything, but 5 hours is not nearly enough time to get good at the combat system before fighting the final boss.

Was playing NBA 2k5 and MLB: The Show '06 today, 'till my disc-reader decided it was time to melt.

Urgh, it's the 3rd time this year. The first two times were excusable since I'd been using, eh, alternative media, but the third time should not have been so.

Nah, man, it's a good-ol´ Ps2. Bought an used one after I stupidly gave the old one away. Now I'm wondering what it went through at the hands of the previous owner and if this little issue isn't the reason he sold it.

Aw well, it's not so much the fixing as it is the time it takes: a full week.

Yeah that's really shitty. I mean, I certainly didn't expect PS2 or PS1 BC, but you'd think it could at least play some PS3 games. I guess that's a result of the cell processor and the PS4 saying "we give up, back to the x86"

Yeah it does suck, but once the PS4 has been out a year or two with a solid library, I don't think anyone will really notice in the long run. I'm just glad used games aren't blocked, and it has a disk drive.

It is quite the depressing week in video games for me. I transfered my $5 deposit from Aliens:CM to GTA5. I bought AC3 used but have skipped every single FMV and after stabbing 40 soliders to death but getting scolded after pistoling the screaming women, I returned the game. I'm reduced to watching COH tournament replays on Youtube for the nostalgia.

OHH You know what I'm playing Daniel. I'm playing Rising and the more I play this game, the more I love it. On my second play through trying to unlock the infinite wig for ripper mode. Gotta practice a hell of a lot more on my parry's if I want to get an "S" ranking on REVENGANCE mode.

Also Dead Space 3. Second play through as well. Playing the Co-Op missing I missed on my first play through. Making new guns and upgraded them makes me feel like a mad scientist where I cant wait to unleash my new creation on those damn necromorphs!
