E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

What Are You Playing? February 2nd, 2013

Posted on Saturday, February 2 @ 10:30:00 Eastern by

I'll have to blend in this Sunday. As a member of the bay area and the son of an avid sports fan, you might think I'd be rooting for the San Francisco 49ers in this weekend's nation-wide pig-out in celebration of multi-millionaire thugs. Again, you might think that.

Instead, I'll be doing my best to blend in during this weekend's big event. If I can stay at home and do nothing, I might do that with Dead Space 3 or more Persona 4 Golden. I'll be doing a touch-down dance on top of a Necromorph or scoring with Rise Kujikawa while everyone else is shouting and cheering at the funniest advertisement they've seen all day.

What are you playing?

Ive gone on into Dragon Age 2. I found a save game generator that lets you choose all the decisions that happened in the first game.

Hammering away at my indie games to do list: Bastion, LIMBO, Anomaly Warzone, Mark of the Ninja. I have also somehow found myself back in the clutches of Civ V.

-1000 California XP from Daniel for not rooting for the 49ers on Sunday. You've just been demoted 1 level from "Bro" to "Dude".

I have zero care for football.
I'll be playing Path of Exile and waiting for my copy of Fire Emblem to arrive Monday.
I have no games on my 3DS right now, so I downloaded Pushmo to fill in for the moment. So I guess I'll be playing that too.

Still playing Valkyria Chronicles. On missions 7 which is apparently known as one of the hardest missions, and its not like the ones before that were really easy. V_V

Also decided to pick up the Telltale Back to the Future game on PS3 since Monkey Island and The Walking Dead were really cool, and the demo of Back to the Future was fun.

    What mission is that?

A strategy I use is to save before a mission, then the first time just use scouts to scout (ha ha!) the area and see what the mission is like, then load previous file, and the second time have a good strategy to rush and win. That has made me get A rank in most missions.

Its where you are fighting Maximillian in the desert and he has a giant tank with turrets. I have only played the battle once, just seeing what its all about. Didn't do well, but my second attempt should go a bit better. I usually do that scout thing too, then load up the save file.

I did it with 3 Lancers, two engineers for resupply and just using the Edelweiss to move out of the way of the Batomys and shoot at the walls that fall down. Just focus on one side at once and bring the thing down ASAP.

At the start of the battle move scouts and troopers uphill, kill the enemies there, and leave them near where reinforcements will arrive mid-battle, so they can shoot at them if they try to move.

I did beat the mission, though i was cutting it close on turns. Did pretty well at the start taking out enemies and turrets and taking out walls....Then Severia showed up and started messing things up, lost 1 ally, managed to save everyone else.

What saved me though is i had Severia on one side of the Batomys, and my tank, and squad on the other side of it.

Just finished the fifth episode of The Walking Dead last night on PC. A friend loaned me Fallout 3 for the PS3 that I'll probably pop in today. That'll be my first one to play in the series. Also, I've been thinking about picking up The Cave for my Wii U to keep it from getting too dusty =/

I just finished Alan Wake, and regret not playing it sooner. The last hour or so was a bit unnecessary, but aside from that, quite good. I have American Nightmare as well, so I'll probably play that this weekend.

Well... I just started three games. Dishonored, From Dust, and Torchlight II. All are very different games that I have just been kind of jumping back and forth from one to the other. Really diggin' Torchlight though. Been so long since I played a dungeon crawler and I forgot how fun it is to go on a rampaging loot fest!

Get as much enjoyment from Dishonored as you can while you can, because the last couple levels are painfully mediocre. Also the most fun way to play is never to load a quicksave unless you actually die. Don't worry about how many people you kill (although it's fun to minimize casualties) because both endings are equally terrible. I OCD'd my way through the game and enjoyed it, but it's probably much more fun if you just deal with consequences of ****ing up.

I'm a little over halfway through the first Dead Space. I'm not particularly interested in the third game, but people seem to really like 1 and 2. The first time I played it I absolutely hated it but I guess that's more to do with how much work you have to put in to even get the PC version to ****ing work. This time I spent close to an hour tweaking everything so that it plays like, you know, an actual game and now I'm loving it.

I did something I have very rarely done before and that is start two games almost simultaneously:
Fear Effect (PSX): it's a fun little game that you might like if you dig the Resident Evil-ish style of gameplay though it is not survival horror, it is more action oriented. Also it's one of those games were you watch cutscenes as much as you play and although its spread across 4 discs it 's very short (I'm up to the third disc but the first two took me about an hour each).
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (GBA) : I've been wanting to play this game for the longest time and since there was nothing in particular keeping me from doing it I finally took the plunge

Also I wanna give a short review of a not so well known little game called "Changing My Avatar", published and developed by GameRevolution. I'm hoping it will get promoted to the front page.
It's not fun, it's a frustrating and infuriating game, and it makes you wanna hurl your keyboard across the room. It's pretty long and that is not a good thing since it's so sh*tty and the worst thing is that it messes with your other "saves". For instance I was forced to delete all my cookies in order to get it to work, so now I have to input the login information in all my bookmarks.
In short it's a sh*tty game, it's inherently broken and should have never been released in this state. The only saving grace is that future "DLC" my fix this broken turd. 0.5/5 or D.

Just got DmC and Playstation allstars from my fiancé for my birthday so ill be playing them until Tuesday when Dead Space 3 arrives. DmC has been awesome so far, trying to master the combos in actual combat and not the practice mode is challenging but satisfying.

Hopped back into New Vegas, since I got the Ultimate Edition but never installed it because of a mad rush of new games and old games going on sale. But tomorrow I'll be cleaning and mounting my new sound system and putting up cable keepers to finally finish my entertainment wall.

And reading The Yellow Birds. It's nuts.

Finished Bastion on the iPad and The Walking Dead on XBOX 360, my so-called "manliness" took quite a beating this week, with all the crying...

To compensate, I'm gonna play a lot of Madden 13 and of course plop down on my couch tomorrow and see the Super Bowl in glorious HD on FOX, with as many unhealthy snacks as I can find.

Also going to try finishing Resident Evil Zero, I still have to muster up the courage to play through the earlier games in the series. It's such a shame that Capcom aren't making any more of these traditional RE's, or at least making something more like RE4 with actual scares and no co-op, the only reason I can't really consider myself a real RE fan is because the only old-school one i've finished is the remake of the first game, which was absolutely brilliant. I have no doubt that I would love all of them but it's so hard to get started because of the fear of screwing up before saving.

finally let myself finish the story mode in Far Cry 3. now to do all the side missions and find all the things so i can get 100%.

no spoilers, but i will say that the general feeling of the game has changed, after continuing after completing the story.

but i will get that 100%.

i've mentioned this before here but it'll say it again. i haven't had this much fun in a game since Red Dead. it reminds me of RDR quite a bit.

they've been the only 2 games so far where i've wanted to get 100%.

i've tried with the GTA games, but after the main story i always just end up wreaking havoc and evading the police/military for as long as possible. or flying helicopters into cars. i'm sure i'm not alone here.

did everything in Arkham City but honestly couldn't be bothered getting all the riddler trophies. it was more fun just continuing being the Batman.

It can't be overstated just how good Red Dead Redemption is. Just look at how much it influenced Assassin's Creed, AC3 reminded me so much of RDR with it's hunting and traversing the wilderness (except the tree climbing), that game is basically a hybrid of the two series. Red Dead has seemingly been a bigger inspiration for other developers than GTA is

I just finished DmC and now I don't know what to do with myself. I have such a huge, untouched backlog that I don't know what to play next. It actually really, really sucks. Can't wait until March, though...I definitely know what I'll be playing then >:0
