What Are You Playing? January 12th, 2013

Posted on Saturday, January 12 @ 12:47:29 Eastern by

I'm still trying to hone my abilities in Team Fortress 2. I can't possibly run a community playdate without the ability to put you all in your place. My soldier and medic classes will be getting a workout this weekend. I'd like to get Demo up to snuff again, but watching frag videos like these makes me realize I'll never get the grenade-chucking Scott to this brutal end point.

Still, I'm not just playing TF2. I've also got Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable and maybe a new file for Persona 4 Golden. I just can't stay away from Inaba for long.

What are you playing?

I played Journey this week, its such a different game I don't even know how good it is, everything is so polished: the visuals, the music, the interactions, want to play it again when I have 2 hours to spare,

Just finished off Hitman: Absolution last week, been plowing through Farcry 3 mixed in with some XCOM Enemy Unknown. Because of my sadistic obsession with playing everything on the hardest difficulty, the Impossible Ironman runthrough of XCOM is taking awhile, requiring frequent Farcry breaks so as not to result in broken controllers and fights with the lady friend.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (PS2): I'm now playing as Trevor Belmont. This game is great but if anyone out there has never played this game I would advise NOT to play as Trevor. I thought it would be even cooler but it only serves to highlight the game's flaws.
Lufia: The Ruins of Lore (GBA).

Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness is the best 3D Castlevania as far as I'm concerned (do keep in mind I haven't played Lords of Shadow). I would even say it's one of the best games in the series overall despite how badly it's been criticized.
I've played it twice and would still enjoy playing it again. So go for it!

Honestly thought Daniel was having a conversation with himself until I saw it was a new avatar. The two of you need to Thunderdome it up for that color scheme or something.

I played the 64 version last year (never played before) and it was tough to play. Not saying it wasn't good back in the day but it didn't age well.

This is such a great series. All the NES and SNES entries are awesome, so is SoTN and the ones on the 64 and let's not forget the Genesis and Turbo CD games. The GBA games are about the only ones I didn't enjoy as much.
Anyone played Castlevania Judgment? Was it the WTF moment of the series?
Wouldn't it be great if Konami were to release some sort of Castlevania Collection?

I'm trying to platinum P4G at the moment, and I'm having a little trouble getting the last month down perfectly in order to get the Legend of Inaba trophy.

Also, I took a quick look at your trophy list and you need a second playthrough, Daniel. You missed the most important story addition that Golden has to offer (IMO).

It's 60 degrees and somewhat sunny. I'm playing the "it's finally not freezing cold and nothing is covered in snow" weekend. Basically, I'll only inside when the sun starts going down. When the darkness hits, I'll be playing more Mechwarrior Online and Tropico 4. That's when I'm not catching up on watching Justified.

Would that new faction mod happen to be Pit Fighter? I just saw this the other day luckily since I hopped on to finish a mod for someone, otherwise I was taking a break and almost missed it!

Havn't tried it yet but very exciting. How is it?

still working on finishing Assassin's Creed 3 on Wii U. One thing i've noticed is that AC is aaalll smoke and mirrors. If it weren't for cool killing animations, the attention to detail, and the collectables, it would be a very average game. The combat is a linear and easy version of batman's, the climbing is an annoying piece of absolute **** because everything is too sticky and you always end up climbing when you dont want to. Basically the only actual redeeming quality of the gameplay is the stealth missions. Don't get me wrong, i'm enjoying the game and the smoke and mirrors are working for me, but that doesn't mean i don't notice the gameplay underneath is average. Also i'm in perfectionist mode, getting every single collectable while neglecting the main story

Crusader Kings 2, forced myself to take a break after Spain fell apart though (that was a long night before work). Planetside 2, and booted up Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 finally. Ex stole my copy, so got a new one for Christmas. Also Robert Jordan book came out, picked it up Friday... so probably playing reading on the couch for the foreseeable future.

On the last chapter of my first play through of Borderlands 2. Finished Rayman Origins (Vita), but still working on perfection when I have a free minute here and there. XCOM, Dishonored and Gravity Rush are on the horizon.
How's Persona 4 Golden? I've been on fence about picking it up for a while now... Can't seem to pull the trigger tho =/

Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Kart 7, and just finished Far Cry 3, so I'm going to either start up Skyrims Dragonborn DLC or keep going on my XCOM hard play through. And god is it hard.

Far Cry 3. There is so much to do in the game. I'm most enjoying sniping guys at enemy outposts and then moving place to place. Much more vibrant world than Far Cry 2.

If you liked the first one, like 20 dollars. If not, like 10. It's not a bad game, it just doesn't feel much different than the first. The superpowers are still fun though.

Borderlands 2 as Zero getting my arse kicked, FFIII on PSP, and trying to help a friend hit WHM99 in FFXI before our subs turn off until the expansion, Seekers of Adoulin. Probably won't go back though if XIV releases around the same time.

Between Skyrim and MMOs my backlog goes all the way back to ME3 i'm ashamed to say, got alot of games to catch up on.
