What Are You Playing? January 26th, 2013

Posted on Saturday, January 26 @ 12:39:39 Eastern by

This weekend is all about orange juice, Tylenol, and copious amounts of "what is the outside world like?" Anthony's been the kind, caring mother we all know he's capable of being, but I can't stay away from the site. Isn't WAYP better late than never?

I'll manage to continue plugging away at two high-profile games coming in February though. Fire Emblem: Awakening and Dead Space 3 are all I need to waste the weekend on the couch, so shove it up your ass, flu. I'd be sitting inside all day anyway. Consequently you guys gotta try the medicine I'm taking. It makes you crazy.

What are you playing?

    Been awesome so far.
The gem system is cool, the skill tree looks really big at start but you have to realize that all classes are in there, not only yours. It has that great feel of Diablo 1 & 2, that you have to find gear to get better and do the best you can with what you have. The creators of this game were clearly inspired by Diablo. The spells and abilities look nice. I really think they got something special here.

I have a level 33 marauder and 20 something witch. Its mostly grab quests in town and do them in order (that's how I do it), so far. Not really the most exciting thing but it still really fun, especially in a group of 2 or more. The leveling is pretty fast considering I did both of those like 2 days ago. I'll have to see when I get higher to know if its slow. Some dude is 70+ since open beta launched but he has been probably playing non stop lol

Lufia: The Ruins of Lore (GBA): I can't wait to finish this game and I don't mean it in a good sense. If you have never tried this series don't start with this, it'll give you a bad first impression. If you played the wonderful SNES entries you could consider skipping this one and not tarnishing your memories of the series.

I am a huge fan of Persona 4, and it was pretty faithful, though some S.links and other things were shortened to fit into the anime. It kind of feels like its on fast forward compared to the game but that's to be expected.

At times too it seems like a parody of the game, especially the way the main character acts, but honestly the animation made me laugh most of the time with its humor.

The actual animation is decent, but sometimes a bit lacking. The Dub is also actually very good IMO, even though they had to replace a few voice actors.

I got both Blue Rays off Amazon, which were 40 bucks each. Still expensive though, but thats my take on it.

So what are the meds you're taking Daniel? Johnny Boys? Can-D? Goofballs?

I gave Heroes of Might & Magic VI a try. What a disgrace. Buggy and it looks like crap. Just give us an HD remake of HoMM III already. Getting ready to install Bastion and give it a whirl. I also will be bowing to peer pressure and a double IP weekend (supposedly) to play some LoL. My friends suck.

Just downloaded Dust 514 and I'm diggin' it so far. I've been swamped by homework and social expectations lately, though, so I still haven't even opened Ni No Kuni. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to really get into it until next week.

It's okay, though, because I just got a new sound system for my TV/living room, and I really just want to play anything loud, bassy, and in-you-face. Hence, Dust, and probably a couple rounds of BlOps II.

I finished Spec Ops: The Line. I wasn't really blown away by the story. I suppose if you're only comparing it to video games the story is impressive, but compared to other media, it still has a ways to go. I only paid five bucks for it though, so I won't complain too loudly. I think I might move on to Alan Wake. It's one of the few games I installed when I bought the SSD, so I might as well play it.

so i finished AC3 a few days ago, the game completion # being around 90%, so here are my thoughts on the game... (note: prior to playing this entry i have only played/completed AC1)

    THE GOOD:
great graphics, large detailed game world, perfect combat & free running mechanics, great voice work, awesome multi-kills, missions as desmond - (simple but satisfying), depth - (nice variety of unique missions and things to do), NAVAL MISSIONS! - ( I REALLY ENJOYED THEM, THEY LEFT ME WONDERING HOW COOL A PIRATE GAME WOULD BE)

    THE BAD:
prolog was extremely boring - (i didnt start enjoying the game till i became conor), not friendly to new players, missed a great opportunity to refresh new & returning players memories on the assassins creed story arc with (Achilles Davenport) during the training - (could have been done via simple motion comic and it would have made the AC3 story more enjoyable)

    THE UGLY:
various graphical & game glitches! - (no clue how some were overlooked)

IMO AC3 is a great game that could have been a masterpiece if it would have had more time to iron out its performance issues & if it would have summarized previous AC story... its a good buy, all players should easily get anywhere from 30 - 50 hrs from the single-player... plus it has unique MP which (so far) i've barley tried but... i did enjoy the little i played... to me thats just a bonus anyway, the single player alone makes the game worth owning...

    NOW PLAYING:
HALO 4 - spartan ops, BF3 - MP, TRIALS EVO, and... im probably going to start BATMAN - ARKHAM CITY GOTY

Borderlands 2. Trying out all the classes but so far I like Siren the best. Finally played ME3 so that's probably why, phaselock makes me feel like a Biotic. :D But seriously the short cooldown makes it alot of fun and i'm using Cataclysm skill tree.

Ni No Kuni or Farcry 3 next.

I finished Farcry 3 the other day (and by "finished" I mean I got all the single player achievements). Good stuff right there. If you haven't played it you definitely should.

I downloaded and started playing Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt for BL2. Played for about 45 minutes and turned it off. I'm not bored with Borderlands, but I was thoroughly underwhelmed by what I've played of the newest DLC. The opening cutscene is by far my favorite thing about it so far.

Might start up another run of Mass Effect 3. Haven't played the single player since I first beat it a week after its release. I also never saw the "new" ending stuff they added, so I'm needing to check that out as well.

I'm also thinking about reactivating my World of Warcraft account. I played the Mists of Pandaria trial and it pretty well got its hooks in me.

Bioshock 2. Played it for about 2 hours when I bought it on release and never picked it up again until last week. I've got a couple other games I've bought and only played a bit before dropping (like Darksiders 2, RDR).

Also reinstalled Neverwinter Nights + Exp packs to play while my roommate uses the TV.

DmC. For the PC. I'm loving every bit of it so far. I don't get why some people are stating "It's a good game, just not a good Devil May Cry game", that makes no sense to me. How exactly is this game NOT part of the series? Is it because the main character looks different (but NOT the emo looking smoker from the teaser trailer, they've updated him considerably from that time)? Is it because there's no lock on to a combat system that is easy to learn, difficult to master? Or is it, dare I say, because DmC has platforming sections that aren't a pain in the rear? *GASP* The heresy!

Have you tried to first 2 on PC? How does the third compare?

I played both 1 and 2 on PC and didn't have any issues--won't be getting the third one there because of Origin.

Dead Space 1 & 2 both had high graphic options, Dead Space 2 more so, with advanced render options as well as available on Steam.

Dead Space 3 is "Direct Port" and available on Origin Only.
