What Are You Playing? January 4th, 2013

Posted on Saturday, January 5 @ 10:00:00 Eastern by

I'm hungry to frag some more community members, so in an effort to brush up my Soldier skills, I'll be playing copious amounts of Team Fortress 2 this weekend. I'm partial to payload maps, but you can't ignore favorites like Sawmill either. Aside from my Soldier I've played a shitload of medic and think I'm fairly competent in supporting the team. What's your favorite class and are you gib enough to go toe to toe in a community playdate?

If anything else I'll likely be sticking a fork in Unchained Blades for the 3DS and maybe a bit more X-COM: Enemy Unknown before I seal it up and look forward to more in 2013. Oh, and here's a shiny new copy of Anarchy Reigns for review.

What are you playing?

I'm running errands and working some scripts I'm writing. If I have time, I'll either jump into some TWD to finish my second runthrough, or I'll start playing Dead Space, since I haven't played any of them yet, and I was told by several people that I'm a big stupid dummy for it.

When I played the previous Dead Space games, I was in a cold garage in the dark night of winter with surround sound headphones, so every once in a while my gf would sneak up and scare the sh** out of me.

I haven't played much of it. So far I like it, but I have only played it like an hour or two.

I just finished The Walking Dead. Wow. I can't wait to play it again, and for Season 2 to come out.

    Same as last week:
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (PS2): what a fun game, but the graphics have not aged well. The textures in some places look almost as if they belong on the original Playstation.
Star Ocean: The Second Story (PSX): all the random battles are starting to get to me, but I want to see what happens.

It is F2P but I'm unsure of how hardware intensive it is. Since its free it might be worth the bandwidth to try.

Civilization V. I enjoy a good game that doesn't really require me to have sound for so that I can listen to my own music while playing. Think I'll listen to Meddle by Pink Floyd and Discovery by Daft Punk while playing. Maybe some Yes or Tame Impala too.

Sleeping Dogs, 2k13, BL2, maybe a 2nd TWD playthrough... but i'm not sure if the replay value is there. It seemed more like they gave you the ILLUSION that your decisions mattered but they all ended up coming to the same conclusion.... I really loathe Larry and would have loved to off him in 2 or 3.

You start to see the weight of your decisions in Episode 4. I'm on my second playthrough and I've been trying to do everything differently. It didn't seem much different until Ep. 4. The main points of the story arc are still the same, though.

The Binding of Isaac. If anyone misses the NES-era challenge of Smash TV games, this one is right up your alley. Edmund McMillen is one of the few designers out there who still creates games where the only requisite for progression is an actual increase in playing skill, rather than grinding and stat increases.

Halo 4, Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed 3 (Wii U). Although I like vampires, i dont know if i like the Dawngaurd add-on. The only reason being that when you're a stage 4 vampire, people don't attack you on sight like they used to, they only do it if you're a vampire lord. I hate that. What I used to love doing most in the game was becoming a vampire and having to sneak into towns to feed on sleeping people without being attacked (since I enjoy stealth so much), and that kind of reminds me of the movie "let me in" which I love a little too much. sigh*

Have you seen Let the Right One In? I think I still prefer the American remake, but they're both amazing vampire films stuck in a genre that mired in ****. Somewhere, F.W. Murnau is turning in his grave.

Yeah whenever I tell someone I like that movie, I usually get a comment about how I'm a girl. Not that I won't admit I'm not the manliest of men, it really sucks that two great movies (and the book, which i've read) is relatively unheard of and anyone who has heard of it assumes it will be like Twilight. But yeah, I have seen Let The Right One In, but I saw the American version first so I like that one more. I'm also in love with Chloe Grace Moretz (yeah, im a 21 year old who likes a teen actor, what of it?)

Just finished FF13 last week and now I'm trying to get a platinum...that means 40 more hours of grinding and boss battles. I've like 100+ games I need to finish, but this year I've resolved to slow down and play single-player games for fun instead of "getting them out of the way."

Far Cry 3, and some sick, sick part of me decided to download the Mists of Pandaria 10 day trial. If it's as much fun as I'm honestly expecting it to be, I may actually buy it in a couple of months and feed my annual month-long WoW addiction after I finish all this other crap up (Far Cry, another Dishonored playthrough, and the next Borderlands DLC mostly). I never really got tired of it (I play it in sporadic one or two month bursts, once or twice a year), but I did play it so much I burned myself out on it for quite a while.

Let me know what you think of the story. I haven't played it again but I'm wondering what different choices result in.

Experiencing Okami for the first time. I see why my friends always told me to play it.

HD, I'd been eyeing it on the store for a while. The psn card I got for christmas whet towards it. I didn't really know what to expect but it's great so far.

Just got through blighttown on ng, Quelaag went down hard. Get past blighttown and you're golden it just takes being persistent and lag tolerance.

I just finished Metal Gear Solid 3. I've been making progress in Xenogears and Peace Walker. Also, I went back to Virtue's Last Reward to watch some of the novel sequences again. I've been wondering why you guys haven't reviewed it yet. It seems it's not even on your game list! Blasphemy!
