What Are You Playing? November 17th, 2012

Posted on Saturday, November 17 @ 10:30:00 Eastern by

I'm trying, in haste, to finish a Hitman: Absolution review, wrap up Persona 4: Golden, write a few more review logs, and do my best to headshot a handful of friends in Halo 4 this weekend. All of that will of course mount before the launch of Nintendo's next-gen console.

I've been working on Persona 4: Golden for a few weeks now and I'm unsure if I'll actually finish the game, but I'm confident in the score I'm ready to hand out. What I'm not confident in? How well that massive day 1 patch will perform on the Wii U hardware people will be carrying home on Sunday.

What are you playing?

Still working on Assassin's Creed 3. Finished up all the main bits and side missions. Now just working on all the gazillion other little things before jumping into the multiplayer for a bit.

I hear that. And I hate that they're looking to annualize the series, but the way they keep it up with the cliffhangers, and improving on just about everything from title to title, I'll continue to buy them.

My only real complaints with the game are that the actual stealth and assassination aspects of the game have sort of taken a backseat to full-blown action sequences in this one. They're there, they just aren't as pronounced and prominent as they should be. And, the whole "pivot" thing makes absolutely ZERO sense to me. The tutorial was beyond unhelpful. I'm also still a little confused by the trading and caravan portions.

I've also hit a few bugs: got stuck in and actual fell through the world a couple of times, and a few of the mission markers aren't showing up on the map (namely, the 'liberation' missions are no longer showing up, and I'm having to actually run around the cities looking for them the old-fashioned way).

It's not perfect, but it's still a great game.

I bought Rage back yesterday, hoping that disgusting texture pop-in problem would be fixed by now. No such luck. Still a decent game. Persona 1 is getting a bit of screen time too.
But really, I'm just counting the days until Tuesday to get P4G, the Vita PS+ freebies and the Walking Dead finale.

Codblops II on PS3. Going through the campaign again. I haven't even touched multiplayer, aside from a few combat training games against the dummies with vastly improved AI. Zombies was a massive disappointment for me. Here I was, thinking the new modes would be different from the traditional zombies, but no, it's just the same thing with a twist. A lying, deceitful twist...

Also playing BioShock, since I got it for free from GameFly.

You beat it already? Geez. I like to take my time, lol. Pretty good so far, WAY too much hand-holding. There's no need to tell me a button prompt everytime I need to do something. "L2 TO SIGNAL HARPER" over and over and over.

Zombies.........yeah, I understand. Seriously overhyped, and the marketing was misleading. It's certainly not a story mode. It's just a survival mode with the usual "required to understand anything" easter eggs from Black Ops and lame "buildables".

The multiplayer? Great when it works. Makes me regret buying it when it doesn't. Biggest issue, beside the horrendous technical problems, is the weapon imbalance. But they did a good job back in 2010/2011, I expect the same in this situation.

    Black Ops2 - Multiplayer

The game sounds better than previous COD games, but compared to Battlefield 3, COD is a huge loser beyond it's cinematic singleplayer visuals. I hate games that hold your hand. I hate games with no freedom of exploration. I hate games that give stupid little children any edge whatsoever. PC Games rule.

If only Battlefield 3 had enough power to make player models as detailed as CoD's. Then CoD would be a COMPLETE LOSER.

Thing is, I can look past character graphics and enjoy the overall gameplay. The mere fact B3 allows me to grab a helicopter and give close air support to teammates in a manner far more realistic than Halo can, CoD:BlackCocks can keep it's stupid drones.

Lego Lord of the Rings. I freaking love it. It captures LOTR so well, and has an awesome free roaming Middle Earth. Plus it seems like its gonna take longer than a typical Lego game to 100 percent. I think its easily my favorite Lego game, surpassing Lego Batman 2 and Lego Star Wars III.

Hitman and Persona 4 Golden on Tuesday too!

It reminds me so much of Apocalypse Now, which I know is what they were going for. I'm not far in, just *SPOILER?*

    killed my first CIA guys.

As far as mindblown? I'm trying not to drink too much while I play, because I bought the game based off GR telling me the story was great and I want to remember the story.

Black Ops II and Assassin's Creed III. I would be finished with ACIII by now, but I have when I play a game, I have to finish all of the little things before I finish the main story, or I'll never go back to do them.

As to Black Ops II I've only played a few hours of MP so far, which is fun, if familiar, so I don't know yet how the campaign is. I might get around to it eventually. One thing I do like is the level of customization they've brought to the game with the new wildcard system. For example, I never use tactical grenades, so I've dropped them and my secondary weapon in favor of more perks and a second primary weapon.

still smashing out halo 4. i've finished the campaign 3 times already and i'm half way through my legendary playthrough. when i finish my current playthrough, i will have completed every game in the series on legendary except for 2 and halo wars (which doesn't count). the only level i didn't do on 2 was the first one, so i decided to go back and try it so that i can say i've legendary-ed the whole series (except halo wars which, again, doesn't count). it's a mighty struggle though. going from halo 2 to halo 4 legendary is like trying not to die on the sims. it's THAT much easier

Sly 3, no collectables, change in VO for Carmelita and no artifacts to steal make a rocky start for the final game in the trilogy.
