DAILY MANIFESTOWhat Do You Want in the Xbox 720?Posted on Monday, October 10 @ 13:02:05 Eastern by Anthony Severino
![]() The NeXtbox, the Xbox 720, Xbox3, XXXbox, or whatever it ends up being called, is definitely in the early stages of development. Microsoft (and Sony for that matter) would be foolish if they weren't already hard at work on a successor to their current generation consoles. With today's discovery of Xbox execs and their roles attached to the development of the next-gen Xbox, we want to know what you'd like to see in the final version, whenever it is Microsoft decides to release it. Tell us what you want to see in the next Xbox in the comments below. Each day of this week, we're going to ask you the same thing but for different consoles. At the end of the week, we'll compare suggestions and put together the ultimate next-gen console, as built by the GameRevolution readers. Comments

Bluetooth 3.0
Backwards compatibility with ALL 360 titles
Built in web-browser with Bing voice search options.
Kinect-like motion controls built in
Silence from the fans and dvd drive.
Hmm...That's a lot of "B"s.

A reliable console. No more red rings of death.
Don't know if this will apply but: A free game (NOT shovelware or mini-games collection), just like the old days (think SMW on SNES).
A low price.

But you are right that they might be able to make up for the loss on the console with profits from the games.

It must last a long freakin' time.
It must have lower power consumption.
It must be able to read game data from USB media drives.
It must have Blu-ray and Wi-Fi built in.
It must not have hyper-expensive peripherals.
It must have a disc slot with no tray.
It must have free online multiplayer.
It must not have awful controllers.
It must not have an annoying dashboard.
And what Lethean said.

Are you suggesting you want to make having an Xbox... worth it?

I don't mind the sound of fans that much, I'd rather have that than a bricked console. Actually, that's my biggest concern. MS needs to release a stable product that can stand up to the hours of use that it will receive without dying. Another fiasco like the red ring of death syndrome will tank sales more than anything else they could do.

-Games cross-compatible with Windows, ie the same disk is usable on both platforms.
-Support for mouse and keyboard input as well as gamepads, for gaming AND general use.
-Divide Multiplayer Matchmaking support for 'Controllers Only', 'Mouse+Keyboard Only', and 'Cross-Input' (both controllers and mouse+keyboard).
-In fact, make the system capable of running Windows as a secondary operating system, similar to how the PS3 (once upon a time) had the option to install Linux.
-Sell an optional Xbox model with Windows pre-installed
If Microsoft did this, they could potentially unify the PC and Console audiences under one platform, allowing them to play together or separate as they choose. This could also help bring the possibility of console gamers having access to mods, which PC gamers have been enjoying since forever.
Also, backwards compatiblity with older Xbox and 360 games. Because that's what people want and I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Though cross-platform multiplayer is still a possibility though. Maybe then you don't really NEED the same disc to be usable between both platforms.

HOWEVER, if they remove backwards compatibility for the old LIVE service or just get rid of it all together at any point I will be ****ing pissed. I have purchased like 15 games online and if they cancel the service that's just money wasted.

It should be capable of reading all the video formats that windows media player is capable of reading, or at the very least plugins should be available for the more common formats.
The Netflix plugin should be able to work just as reliably as it does on my computer without all those annoying lags which I experience only when watching Netflix on my XBox.
And...bluray and all of that would great too.
