What's The Best Gaming-Related Gift You've Ever Received?

Posted on Friday, April 8 @ 11:32:19 Eastern by danielrbischoff

I turned 23 on Wednesday and found myself in a bit of a predicament. I've been getting video game-related gifts for most of my life. I got a Game Boy when I turned five, I was a Nintendo 64 kid one Christmas, and I've gotten games ranging from Yoshi's Story to Assassin's Creed II.

Getting games for birthdays and holidays has slowed as a trend. My parents have given up altogether. Now I only see socks and underwear from them. Part of the problem is that I head right out and buy any games I really want. It doesn't help that half of them are now work-related. What's a gamer to do?

This year, I moved into a new apartment with space for a desk. Enter the gaming-related desk toy. My girlfriend picked this knit Sunflower off of Etsy. Opening the smiling Plants vs. Zombies paraphernalia on Wednesday put a big smile on my face. We've all gotten gaming stuff from friends and family before. What's the best game or game-related gift you've ever gotten?

    Happy Birthday!

Your story sounds like it could be about me. I suspect about many gamers. When I was young and had no money, Christmas and Birthday's were all I had to look forward to for new games. Then I got older, started working, and just bought all the games I wanted. I also get socks and underwear now from the folks... though that's probably a good thing, I'm not sure if I'd have bought them myself...

Happy Belated Birthday Daniel! :) And I'm so jealous you got that gift!! For me, I have a couple of Yoshi plushies and Game Boy keychains, but nothing super cute like what you got!

I gave my sons LBP puppet dolls a little while back when I came back from a business trip. Thrilled. Both of them.

A friend gave me a Resident Evil Tyrant action figure one time for Christmas. That was pretty awesome.

    Happy birthday!

Oh yes, I have the winner here. The year was 2006, the PS3 had launched, as had the Wii, and while I had no desire for a 360 I wanted a PS3 and possibly a Wii. Since the PS3 was impossible to find, I knew I wasn't getting one. My dad liked to put clues as to the contents of the present, and one big box said "What did the snail say when he rode on the turtle's back? What did the Frenchman say when he was asked if he wanted to eat the snail? Hank Hill doesn't just sell propane, does he?" Hopefully you can get those, if not, Google them or think harder.
Well, imagine my surprise when they managed to find one of the few PS3's in town, just by pure chance mind you, and that was the contents. So yeah, that was the best gift I've gotten.

    Oh, and happy birthday.

Definitely consoles. My folks started my gaming addiction by buying an Atari 2600 and a Commodore 64 for my brother and I way back in the day. But the best gift ever was when they bought me a NES plus a suscription to the local video game rental place as a present for getting good grades at school. Years later they bought me an SNES along with Final Fight, Super Castlevania IV and Actraiser.

My most recent birthday was the one where I got the best game-related gift. My parents never have any idea what games to buy because they aren't sure which ones I already own. Anyway, at my birthday dinner my Mother handed me a book called 1001 Video Games to Play Before You Die. It's a great book and I love reading about all this games that I've either played or some that I might have missed.
