Xbox Live Gold Fee Jumps To $60

Posted on Monday, August 30 @ 18:00:07 Eastern by

Umm... err... ahhh... hmmm... ohhhh... damn.

Oh, I know that Daniel already talked about it. But I need to vent. Because Microsoft is "confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry." And it's really just people in the US and Mexico who are going to pay more. Surely, you're not one of those people, heh heh... sigh...

And I'm here living the good life with free games and discounts from PSN. "Best value in the industry"...my left glute. But they're apparently offering Gold for $10 off, momentarily, if you still plan on using it for another year.

Yeah, I'll be busy for the next few years. I also have no edge to buy Reach when the new MoH is coming out soon.

For Christ sakes, it's an extra $10 that is going into keeping XBL one of the best supported online options available.

What is good about PSN other than "it's free?"

    The list is short: Nothing.

Part of me expected a little decency from you, but thank you for stamping out the embers of any respect I might have had for someone who I now see was so undeserving of it in the first place. I'll let you get back to constantly seeking to create discord amongst anyone with moral fiber and open-minded understanding.

Let's be honest, Nick. You've been billing your XBL membership as a work write off for years.

I just sold my 360 Last month after it had been collecting dust for half a year. I don't have to worry about this kind of junk anymore.

@Bretimus_v2: Actually, I haven't. The only XBL membership we get for free is the one at the office.

*shakes head* What's the big deal? It's only $60 a year, the same price as a new Xbox game. For that money, you get an online service with tons of support. Xbox Live beats PSN any day. Now I'm reading all these comments from angry kids that suddenly want a PS3, and I can't stop laughing. Xbox Live charges $60 per year, and these kids want to pay $300 for a PS3? They would have to own the PS3 for five years to break even. In five years, we will be buying new consoles. Add the cost of PS3 games, and it's cheaper to stick with with Xbox Live. I just hope their parents can talk some sense into them!

It's a yearly fee, it isn't that bad. What we SHOULD be b*tching about is paying $59.99 for a game. Games should cost no more than $49.99, and some of the crap that gets pumped out has no right to cost more than $39.99. Then again you can always get a shiny nickel for them at Gamestop, but sometimes that nickel doesn't shine.

Quality for 60 bucks is the big deal. Why pay 60 bucks for something if you barely use it to full capacity?

I don't understand why everyone says "PSN sucks balls." I'm on it every day and I very rarely experience any problems of any kind. I have heard people say that the community isn't as good. What that says to me is that you don't make friends as easy, in which case you need to get to the bar or a concert and make real friends damn shut-ins. Cuz it clearly can't be the lack of people, I have no problem finding a match with any of my games. COD, Blue, GTA, Killzone, you name it.

I sent that message to UglykitteN a while ago.

Now, what's with all this "tons of support" stuff? For what? RRoD? Both services are almost the same, and if you don't have a PS3 or pride yourself in your Gamescore, then keep paying for LIVE, I won't stop you. I've simply made a long-term investment in my PS3, and I've paid....nothing for online support.

I have a 360. I have no real problem with the XBL service. I pay for it on a monthly basis, as I don't know if I'll have time to play it for a few months at any given time. It's $10 a month. The price of a cheap dinner. A movie ticket. A Netflix account. A 12 pack. Case on point: an extra $10 a YEAR is not that big of a deal. If you can't afford that, on top of everything else you're already paying for, then maybe you need to start re-prioritizing your expenses a bit.

De-Ting, you're just showing your fanboi side by even bringing up RRoD. It has nothing to do with the Xbox Live service. It just shows you don't have any real argument.

Now don't even. You still haven't answered the question, you just badgered my point with your own hypocritical nonsense. I don't have anything against Xbox LIVE other than having to pay for it and being sent a message from every pubescent jackwad that I kill while playing online, while on PSN I get free games and typically get left alone, no matter how much ass I kick. There's still a range of features I enjoy on the 360, I just prefer my online games on PSN. Deal with it.

If the lametards running this site didn't make 2 posts about the same topic I wouldn't have to cross-post this:

What I get for my Xbox live subscription fee is that the same connectivity features, friends lists, voice chat, player prefer/avoid, trueskill level, etc are GUARANTEED to be in every game that connects over Xbox Live. Whereas, you might have any number of disparate (or wholly absent) systems and featuresets on PSN.

Now, to your post: So Xbox Live is bad because people message you? OMG HOW DARE THEY?! Why do you make SEVERAL posts about how much Xbox Live sucks then say, "I just prefer my online games on PSN. Deal with it." If you really "just prefer" PSN, stop coming into threads ripping on Xbox. Your agenda is obvious.

You clearly are just a Sony Fanboi.

He does have a point, you know. If you prefer online gaming on the Playstation, why would you come into a thread about the 360 and say "And I'm here living the good life with free games and discounts from PSN"? Sounds like someone isn't being open minded...

    Lol this comment section blows

All you've said is "I love PSN. Why are oyu mean guys attacking me? QQ"

Call it mud or whatever. The only point you've made is that you are a Sony fanboi, and you never had any interest in Xbox Live regardless of price or quality.

reading these this article and the following up artilce regarding xbox live going up in price...maybe its time to change our society, maybe one that is not controlled by paper money. having the cost of xbox live go up is not the end of the world but it does make persons use more of their earned cash. the price of anything seems to be going up everywhere. people want to escape to games and not have to pay an arm and a leg for. big brother, if you're reading this. please stop nickel and diming us.

Only reason I disagree for the price increase is because Microsoft already makes money on tons of little micro-transactions that people buy, like the avatar items, etc... (that have absolutely ZERO overhead cost for development) Wasn't that supposed to cover the rising operating costs?

What you get is the same quality as others get for free, you just have to pay for it because microsfot decided they want ot make more money off you.

Warmaster, don't be stupid. Others get it for free because SOMEONE is footing the bill. Do you think companies develop products for you, just because you are a super-cool guy? They are in the business of making money.
