While younger gamers have flocked to the brand, more mature consumers remain reluctant to jump on board. Skylanders move forward with trappable enemies, though I doubt it’ll turn stubborn heads.

I have and will continue to have a place in my heart for Nintendo. In fact, my first console was a Super Nintendo. The video game market has changed drastically since the early '90s and it seems like what once was platinum is more so along the lines of silver now. Nintendo has always been...

The Good: Addictive gameplay, lots of powerups keeps things fun, doesn't pressure you for microtransactions, leveling up unlocks more things to do

The Bad: No endless mode, getting a high score requires a lot of focus and quick thinking

Tetris has always been a great mobile game. It's quick and easy to get into and you can play for 2 minutes or 2 hours and still have fun. Blitz goes the way of the 2 minutes by dropping lines of blocks and you just tap at the Tetromino outlines and the blocks will drop. The idea is just to clear lines as fast as you can with the help of power-ups. There are many types that can boost your score such as Santa dropping lines of blocks, a magnet which will bring all the block to the left side of the screen, lasers which will clear lines for you and even bombs which will clear segments of the screen. The power-ups are fun and the game requires fast reflexes and quick thinking to get high scores. The game may start out slow but as you level up you unlock new modes and new high scores to beat.

Graphics wise, the game looks like a solid Tetris game. Better than EA's previous effort at a Tetris game which didn't hold up on high-res phones. Now the game is slick and loads up fast for a quick couple of games. Of course with this game being free-to-play you have to level up to unlock new power-ups or pay big real world prices for them. Honestly there's not much of a grind here. I was earning achievements and gaining levels fairly quickly. After about 25 games I had already reached level 7.

With that said, Tetris Blitz is a fantastic free-to-play game done right. You can gain levels and items at a regular pace without having to pay out any money. Of course naysayers of any free-to-play model will look the other way, but you are truly missing out.
