| I have to say, this is one of my favorite games ever so you could call this reveiw bioused, but anyone who has played this game will know why I am such a great fan. It was a series that many don't know about but, everyone who has played it, loves it. Its an RPG/adventure/action game, set in a real, modern Japan. The story is about a 18- year old boy called Ryo, whos sensai father is killed by a mysterious man named Lan Di. Ryo sets out to find Lan Di and anvenge his fathers death. Its so, so, so much more complex than that, but you will have to play it to find out,and dip your toe into the fabulous world of shenmue. Firstly then, the graphics are amazing, but we forget that the dreamcast was easily able to create graphics that could just as well beat the "new" consoles. In fact, they have just put shenmue 2 on the xbox and they didn't have to upgrade the graphics at all, because they were so good. The colour and 3d engine is totally amazing, and very life-like. Remember this game is very realistic and it makes you fell like you are playing a film. There are so many cut-scenes in the game, and they all flow through without having to change screen. The gameplay is exellent,and there are many aspects to it.you play "free quest" where yourun around the town, village, harbor, and home freely and search for clues at free will. You can speak to any one of the hundreds of people, gather info, and this lets you advance through the story. QTEs, are short dramatic events scenes where you must press controller buttons that correspond to icons that appear on the screen. you must do it quickly otherwise you lose the QTE. there are free battles which are a Tekken or Virtua Fighter type battle where you hae many moves to learn. The lifespan for this game is quite long, not as long as shenmue 2 but it should take you some fair time, especially if you trigger all the events and take your time looking at everything within the game. There are many different ways the story can progress, and this is decided by what you do and the desisions YOU make. This means that everytime you play the game, you will do things in a difefrent way, but the end will be the same. The music in this game is great too, and it offers the normal, dramtic powerful music of RPGs such as Final Fantasy. The main theme is especially powerful and when combinedwith the events that happen within the game, it almost makes you cry! The last main thing I will comment about in this game is the story and atmosthere, and these two things are what makes shenmue more than just a game. The storyline contains things that we can all relate to.Love, Hate, Hope, and the power of freindship. In this game Ryo has freinds, who all help him on his journey, its amazing how involved you get in with the storyline and all the feelings of characters you feel to. All in All this is a great game and nobody who calls themselves an RPG oradventure fan or even a video game fan, should not have played this game. It is a true classic.... |
