I was never a fan of UFC. Call me crazy, but some of those matches last for ten seconds and really never pick up from there. Plus, the same guys always win because they use submission moves, technical wrestling like it SHOULD be, over other form's for entertainment out there. But this is how I feel about wrestling in general. As a former fan of the fighting sports, I can't help but comment on how low the show has sunk, but UFC is no better, sporting big money and buildups for at best, 10 minute matches. At least the WWE prolongs it a bit.

But I digress. Back in 2000, when I was still a wresting fan, I picked this up because I was bored and needed something fresh. UFC for the Dreamcast was an interesting rental to say the least. For five days I tried to learn how to fight, and for five days I lost every match. It was real bad, I felt like this. A game finally beat me.

The controls on the game are really hard to grasp, unfortanatly. There are so many button taps and analong stick movements it was hard to keep up with the action the screen. Preforming combos and reversals were hard to pull off, for me at least. You get smoother as you go along, but the learning curve was real tough.

Fortunately the game looks good and sounds good. We have good looking fake grapplers (calling them wrestlers would be an insult.) and a nice looking ring, plus decent voice overs from the crowd, the commentators, and the referee. Let's get it on became a big catchphrase in no time. Thank you, Judge Lane.

There is also a lot of modes to go through, although all of them are paper thin. There is no rise from the top in a career mode, instead there is tournaments, one on one matches, practice modes, grapple, submission modes, all of the standard stuff you would expect from a game like UFC. Not a lot of depth.

UFC is not a bad game but something about it; I guess losing every time, turned me off it as a whole. I recommend it for the hardcore wrestling fans out there, because if you get very fustrated in the end by the numerous counters and grapples, steep learning curve and ridiculous difficulty, you will hate this game, just like those that hate orange notes and fetch quests. It is, in the end, not worth the aggrivation for me.
