For most people, endless hack and slash games aren't that great because they get too repetitive. Even though Children of Mana, the sequel to Super NES's Sword of Mana, is like this, I feel it does it quite nicely. In the beginning, you get to choose between four characters to play as, Ferrik, Poppen, Wanderer or Tamber, each with different abilities. You find out that someone is distrupting the Tree of Mana, a source of power. You must stop him and free the Tree of Mana from its evil. First I'd like to say that the graphics are pretty unique in a way that gives it visual appeal. Throughtout the game, you acquire different weapons like a mallet and a flail. Your main weapon is a sword (of course). The bosses are pretty cool (one of them is in the screenshot to the right). The map will help you at times to get certain things to progress. Once in a while there will be a challenging part in a dungeon. The good thing is that you can get jobs to go back to the dungeon and do a certain objective. The neat thing about Children of Mana is that you can get gems and upgrade your sword, other weapons or health. Once in a while the hack and slash does get repetitive and the story doesn't go too in depth but Children of Mana is still a good game with some potential in it.
