As most of you know, I am an RPG and a RTS enthusist. Those are some of the best games for me to play, and hard games for me to review, because I do my best not to be biased or anything.

For Ogre Batte 64, however, I don't have to worry to much.

It is rare that a game captures me like this. Only Zelda, Mario, and Half Life had that effect, but Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, is without a doubt one of my all time sentimental favorite games out there, and one of those games where people should try at least once.

Graphics- I'm not going to lie, the graphics are not that good. The characters have their own shapes, and look pretty nice, the animation is smooth, there are nice effects when magic is used, and some little features, like the weapons carried, arealways shown. The backgrounds are a bit blurry and blocky, and the characters, although unique to each other based on their class, will match the other characters in their classes in terms of movement and reactions. Overall its almost dead center on graphics.

Final Score- C+

Gameplay- The core part of the game is done well. First off you have over 50 unit types, each of them are strong against certain others. Then you have their Chaos Frame, which determies if they are a light or chaotic alignment, which determines what type of unit they can become. Ton's of weapons, armor, helmets, acessories, stats, for each character, plus monsters like dragons, golems, and others thrown in the mix. Also, you don't control the fighting, your troops do like a real commander on the battlefield. They attack for you, but you can control how they attack by how you place them in a grid. It is somewhat daunting at first, and can be complicated, but after a while you not only get used to it, but you plan it down to the T. It is very rewarding, very deep, and very satifsying.

Final Score- A

Sound- Although there are no voice overs, the sounds of swords clashing and spells being cast are good. Plus the music of the game, although repetitive, has some nice tracks which you can listen to over and over again. Voice acting would of been good, but text does fine in the end.

Final Score- B-

Satisfaction- You will need a TON of patience to play this game. The storyline is great, the gameplay is great, and while it's not the most beautiful or not the greatest sounding game, it works for me, and for any RTS fans, it would work for them to. I say pick up a copy if you can find it, it is a uncommon game now a days, and was hard to get when it was out for the 64.

Final Score- A

Overall Score- B+
