Perimeter did just that a few years ago, that was an excellent game and very innovative. Maelstrom looks interesting but I think yours is the first positive review I've seen (from a decent source). Maybe I'll have to give it a try.
EDIT: I just realised that both games are from the same dev, which explains quite a lot :-P

| Honestly, I'd never heard of Perimeter 'till youd mentioned it; I'll have to give it a look see some time soon, assuming I can easily get my hands on a copy. |
