The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

I have to say Im surprised this game is on the site, and further more Im suprised I have actually played this one quite a bit. SO here is my review of this intristing title.

Gameplay: Ill have to admit the gameplay would be fun. You hackNslash your way around the islands doing chore's for your maits. Gain experiance and new moves its all satisfying. But there is one just one little bitty teennyyyyy wheeeennnyyy problem. You see this game has a serious problem with how do I say this........LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the worst lag I have ever experienced in my life. It never goes away. I have a bulky gaming pc and The lag is just awefull. At times its just unplayable. And it cause's headaches in about 2 hours of play. Anyway, back to the gameplay, keeping the lag problem in mind! You start off as a jailbait wannabee, meeting jack and excaping is fun. Youll kick that jail door open billions of times during your stay in the carabeans. You start off with only a sword, "which later on gets upgraded" with its basic attacks being slash, later on upgrades to hack then to hackNslash, youll have to time your swings to do combo's which will do even more damage to your foe. Deeper into the game you will unlock guns, they add a different way to attack, that being distance. You can shoot targets long ways aways and keep shooting until they get close then pull your trusty sword out and finnish them off. Its fun and adds short of a stragedy feel to the combat. But as I said before the lag will make 3 swings look like only 1 and its hard to keep up with your health or your foe's for that matter so battles are basicaly juggles between life and death. Wont take long until you get your own boat to paddle around in which gives you access to new islands. The boats are fun as heck for a while, There is a surprising amount of deph to this game Ill try to detail the boat combat starting with you being by yourself, youll go out and battle the company ships to get there plunder! Its fun and satisfying, youll bring your boat up side by side click left cannons or right connons depending on what side the enemy is on and BOOM! You will hurl balls of steel right at them and the ships actually gets holes in the sides and you can blow there masts into which in turn slows down there ship. Its cool that a cheap game like this has this much detail to it. Now, in the game you can recruit shipmates, "other players" and they can jump right in with you and you guys become a team and they control connons of there own along with you armed with your main ships guns. Its awesome having a team all onboard your ship taking down others. It adds a "Im captain of the seas!" feeling. Plus when you sink ships together its easier and you all gain the plunder amoungst yourselfs. Also another neat feature is on some ships after you damage them to a certain point you can shoot hooks into there boat and board there ship. You actually stand on the enemy ships and fight on the seas, its awesome, youll kill the crew take there plunder and leave the ship for dead. BUT as I said before you have to understand that lag makes all this choppy as hell and its kinda like reading a book, you have to imagene in your head the peices that are missing between glitch to glitch.

Sound: Sound isnt bad, its not the best in the world but the game is a simple game.

Graphics: Ok OK the game has decent graphics, there not awfull but not reward winning eather. They get the job done.

Overall:

Gameplay": 6 it could be a awesome game if it wasnt for the lag.

Sound: 4 what do you expect? Its broadcasted through the net.

Graphics: going with a 6 for this because for a net game there good.

overall I give this title a C+ its cool to see a game like this where you can tell that the developer wanted this to be good. And they did a good job but really this game should have been in stores to prevent the horrendous lag issues.

Side NOTE: The lag is only because the game is over the net. Im sure if this was one of those cheap games you see at walmart for 9.99 they could have fixed it. Its fun to play check it out. Also as a side note you can play this game for free but can only advance so far in the game, if you pay to play you have alot more options become available such as new weapons/boats/etc which adds more fun to the game.
