In the almighty realm that is gaming, there are badasses. Guys that will rip out your intestines, and choke you to re-death with them. Guys that have a higher lead content than pure lead, and are not scared to hand out some 'free samples'. Guys like Duke Nukem, Dante, Master Chief, Samus, the Doom marine (What is that guy's real name?) and Max Payne, only to name a few.

But there is one that came straight out of the blue and blew everyone elses kill scores away. He is Serious Sam.

In Serious Sam by the development team Croteam, you play as Sam 'Serious' Stone. He has been sent back in time to defeat an army of ancient technological monsters that threatens the entire of modern day humanity.

OK, so the plot needs work, but that's not the focus of the game. The focus of Serious Sam is the combat. All of it. This game has so many enemies you'll wonder how no-one's heard of them before. If you walk into a room, ANY ROOM, there will be at least 5 or so enemies to kill.

And kill you will. Well, when you get the staggering arrange of weapons that is given to you in Serious Sam, it'd be a shame to not kill something. From a small, kind of wimpy revolver with infinite ammo, to giant hulking laser cannons and rocket launchers, there's something in there for everyone. Shotgun? Check. Double barreled shotgun? Check. Machine gun? Check. Minigun? Check. This game is ready to kick some serious butt.

And it'll look good doing it too. The guys at Croteam must of had some serious spare time in order to come up with this game engine. Everything looks spectacular, the walls, the bad guys, the guns, the blood stained walls, everything. The textures work extremely well and capture everything brilliantly. It actually looks like you're in ancient Egypt. The thing that makes it even more amazing is when it was released. This game came out of literally nowhere and had some of the best graphics ever.

Now, like any game, it does have its flaws. The one that springs to mind first is the amount of enemies. There's just too freaking many! Finding secrets spawns bad guys. Finding weapons spawns a lot of bad guys. Heck, even finding health packs spawns bad guys. Enough is freaking enough. It's one thing to have too little bad guys. It's another to have too many. This game falls into the latter.

Now, I would reccomend this game to anyone who has a good PC, with stats that fall significantly above the reccomended specs. I say 'everyone' as this game is ridiculously inexpensive. I picked it up for about $10NZ. Just, watch out for the neighbours. ALL of them.
