Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is one amazing game for the PC. Even though this game may be old, it will be a classic in time. With that said, it's no doubt that it's one of the best Star Wars games around on the PC.
First off, the story takes place in many locals, from Yavin 4 to Nar Shaddaa and Cloud City on Bespin. It starts off with Kyle Katarn and his partner Jan Ors. Not to the player's surprise, Kyle can't use his force powers, as he forgotten them. So, the first few levels are played by using blasters and ranged weapons. When Kyle actually gets his lightsaber, the game picks up and becomes even better when you can use the force to push enemies off tall ledges and throw your lightsaber at them. There are plenty of Stormtroopers to blast and there are enough variety in enemies to make the fighting more fun. That includes Dark Jedi and Shadow Troopers, who are some of the toughest enemies in the game and prove to be quite a challenge since they aren't as easy to kill as the other A.I. The A.I. is not half bad, they can be accurate (snipers are another category) and they run around, trying to dodge your lightsaber/blaster while firing back with their own weapons.
The graphics are dated but are still good since the game runs smoothly with no framerate drops and the physics are pretty nice, with only an occasional floating corpse. The characters are animated pretty well and the locals are simply amazing.
The sound is practically the same in most Star Wars games; amazing. The music is still a pleasure to listen, thanks to John Williams. The voice overs are good, but not great and the blasters feel natural when fired and the lightsaber when you attack enemies. Even on some levels, you can even hear background noises, which makes you feel that there are aliens and things aro
The gameplay is a mix between first and third person. The 1st person is with the blasters, which plays out pretty well. The 3rd person is with the lightsaber and is used for the platforming elements. The platforming is a bit annoying but not so much as it makes the game tedious. There is some fun to be had in multiplayer, with or without human opponents since bots are allowed. The game can get difficult at times but it just takes a bit more thinking on puzzles or a bit more patience for the platforming. The challenge overall is a bit high but there's a great amount of fun to be had.
In the end, this is a must own for Star Wars fans and for everybody else who wants a challenging game.
