What do these ratings mean?

I can honestly say that Warcraft 3 is by far my favorite strategy game. This is the first game that I have played in the series, and as much as i'd like to try warcraft 2, it's just nowhere to be found.

I loved Diablo. a lot. and the only real reason why I got warcraft 3 was because it was by Blizzard and I just had a feeling it would be a great game. I definitely wasn't dissapointed. I'm even leaning towards warcraft 3 being my favorite Blizzard game ever. and i even have a WOW account.

Although, to me, WOW was a fun game, especially considering i play it with my friends, but I just don't see what all the hype is about. It's fun, it's online with millions of other people and what you can do in it is endless. but I just don't see, at all, the 'addictive' aspect of it.

Other Blizzard games aside, warcraft 3 is a surprisingly good looking game, even with the very basic animations. It's very colourful and is a real piece of eye-candy, and the HUD may be basic, but it's easy to use and looks really neat.

The sound, I think, is one of the best parts of the game. The sound effects are great, the voice acting is nothing short of brilliantly done, and some of the things the units say are really clever and funny. Even one of the hero's who looks surprisingly like Diablo mentions Diablo in one of his little cameo's.

The story is probably the highlight of the game. Most strategy games are addictive because of the strategic aspect of taking down bases, but Warcraft 3 seems to do that and give it a storyline that you'll want to keep getting deeper into. There are a lot of twists in the game and the final level in the campaign is something you'll want to play over and over again. it's just that fun!

The gameplay is terrific. building a base is fun, creating units is fun, killing things is fun, and even  chopping down blocks of trees is fun. The only real problem I had with the gameplay was how many units you could control at one time. in Age Of Empires, you could control about 30-40 untis at once. In warcraft 3, you can have 12 at the max. obviously you can have more but that would mean clicking on a lot of different units all the time, and that can get annoying.

But my main problem with the actual game itself is how rediculously hard the custom games are. You can set it to either normal or hard, and even normal is almost impossible for human. The opposition units just seem so much stronger, it's like they have a really big unfair advantage. Look at it this way, you have 12 units (including a hero), and the opposition has 12 units (also including a hero). Your hero is a few levels higher than the opposing hero and all of the other units are evenly matched. make them fight each other, and guess who wins with flying colours and still has half of their army left.

But this is a problem made easy in The Frozen Throne with the selection of easy mode and being able to lower the opposition health to at least 50%, so put warcraft 3 and the expansion together and you've got one really awsome and addictive game for everyone to enjoy.
