What do these ratings mean?

Believe the critics, metal gear solid 4 is as good as it is made out to be. Not every critic has given it a full score (usually about a 8/10 or a 4/5) but the only problem they have with it is that the gameplay doesn't balance out the cut-scene lenghts, but they are missing the point entirely. There is nothing wrong with hour long cut scenes in this game, it is still a long game despite how much it feels like a movie compared to a game, but the main reason why people play this game is because they are fans of the series and they want to see how the metal gear series finishes off. I am one of these people, although i have not played metal gear 1 or 2, i have been a fan of the metal gear solid series since the first game was released on ps1, a big fan. The story in mgs4 is amazing. i spent months playing the first three games to try and understand the long and confusing story just so that i could get the most enjoyment out of this game. during this time, i even enjoyed playing the first metal gear solid, the series just does not get old. My most enjoyable time was playing mgs3 of course, i still consider mgs3 to be much better than most ps3 games. Even in saying that, mgs4 is a hell of a lot better. There's just no limit to how much fun you can have playing this game, and there is always a reason to go back and play again, whether it's to finish it on a higher difficulty, find different ways to sneak in different situations, to see the videos again, to get a higher end ranking to say how good you played, and i don't even have the strategy guide yet, and metal gear solid is known for having lots of hidden material that you will never find unless someone tells you about it. i've had the game for less than 3 weeks and i've already finished it 4 times on the first 4 difficulties, and the surprising part is that the game is still getting better every time i play it through. The gameplay may seem a bit dull at first, but there's only one reason for that: you aren't playing it properly. running through the game and not worrying about getting caught is deffinitely not going to keep you entertained, or alive. if you sneak, you will never have this much fun on another video game. and by sneaking, its even more fun if you can do it without killing anyone. just simply going past them and not nuetrelising everyone is so much fun, its all about strategy. The amount of weapons in this game is amazing. and they're more fun to use than the weapons in call of duty 4. Its so good to see all of the old characters from the series appear in this game, namely Raiden. His voice acting, along with Snake's, is perfect. You could not ask for more from either of them. There may be a few voices that could have been slightly better, but overall the voices in this game are all well covered. I can't really give a comment on the graphics since i haven't seen them in high defenition. But even in standard defenition, its a great looking game. everything is smooth and there's a lot of attention to detail in the characters and the environments. I very highly recomment this game. This is the only game that makes buying a ps3 worth it. I have played a few of the hihgly rated games on the ps3, (motorstorm, uncharted, burnout paradise, cod4, cod5, unreal tournament 3, star wars: the force unleashed, assasin's creed) most of them are great games, but none of them a worth buying a ps3 for. metal gear solid is worth it, and without it, the playstation would be a big failure and xbox would take over as the dominant brand. This IS the best game of the new generation. p.s. i've also played GTA4. waaaaaaay overrated.
