When I first played the Darkness, I was hoping for great game with a immersive story and amazing atmostphere instead Im left with a hollow game with poor shooting and a short lifetime.
I wont bore you with the story as you've probaly heard it already but you play Jackie Escartdo a mafia hitman who on his 21st birthday is killed by his Uncle Paulie, but he comes back to life and inherits the darkness powers. These powers range from being able to send a tentecal though unreacable areas to open new areas. You also can summon small goblin like creatures called darkings they come in 4 varities beserker, lightkiller, gunner and kamakazie. They all have there own strengths and weaknessess but they don't add much to the game.
Another Darkness power is the demon tail which can be used to pick things up and gore enemies again it's not very useful. The most useful power comes near the end of the game it summons a black hole sucking in anything in it's path then spitting them out again.
The game features subway side missions which see you collecting stuff etc. Which is a fun distraction. The game has amazing visuals and the character models make it look impossible that Spiderman 3 is running on the same machine. The shooting though is poor and once you've got all of the darkness powers you probaly won't use them, and is nothing compared to the shooting in chronicles of Ridicck(Made by the same developer)
Parts of the game takes place in the other world a kind of World War One setting this is bizarre but is a welcome change to endless dark alleyways.
Overall despite having great visuals and a accomplished story the poor shooting and game lenghth let would could and sould have been a amazing game down.
