Stubb's The Zombie is one of those games that you want to like so much, but you can't overlook the flaws it has. It is one of the first games which puts you in the shoes of a zombie, you get to eat peoples brains in a comedic fashion in the "futuristic" 1950's town of Punchbowl, and you have cool powers to eat, kill, maim, and turn people into zombies...what more can you not like?

Unfortanatly, the flaws, although few, are pretty major.

Graphics- The game is pretty good looking. Stubbs and the people you kill are nicely detailed in a cartoony fashion, and the framerate is nice and smooth. The blandness is in the enviorments, which look like the same corridors after corridors in the old day shooters. Each level is different, but the enviorments in the levels are literally the same. So if you have a grey corridor, you open a door to another one. A farmhouse yeilds another farmhouse. Also the levels are bland as hell.

Final Score- B-

Play Control- Controlling Stubbs is simple, and his moves, from his unholy flatulence to the exploding head, are pretty awesome. Plus eating peoples brains and using them as your zombie army is one of the greatest things I could ask for, especially if your a fan of Zombie movies like me. The only problem is it suffers pitfalls. It is really hard to get an army going, and having them properly follow you into battle against the living. You got to babysit them a lot. Also, there are some weird moments where you can drive vechicles, which makes little sense. Finally, the entire game is run on the halo engine, which means it's pretty much the exact same controls as Halo, It's not a bad thing, but basing it on that engine makes it Halo with zombies more than Stubb's the Zombie in my book.

Final Score- B-

Sound- The game has one of the best soundtracks in a long time. Cut from a vein like Skullmonkeys and Katamari Damnacy, the soundtrack is updated 50's songs which sound REALLY GOOD, done by bands from today. We also have funny although cheesy voice acting in the game, and a unecessary storyline which is definitly put into the game for laughing purposes only.

Final Score- B+

Satisfaction- Stubbs was a 10 hour romp which is not really worth playing again unless you like to put it on a higher difficulty level. The lack of a decent multiplayer (they have a co-op mode which is fine) and going through the games 12 levels over and over really isen't appealing, but when you play it, you will have a good time, that is almost guarenteed. I wish that they made the game longer and added some more varied levels, although to be fair the damn, farmhouse and city hall idea's were pretty cool. In the end, I think the game suffers more for being on the wrong system at the wrong time. If this were a 360 release, I am sure it would of been a sleeper hit on that system. While is has the power to be a hit on the normal X-box, it misses the mark in the end. As I said, a fun game, but a flawed game.
