So I got Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and was excited. I've heard so much good things about it that I knew it would be good, but did it hold up to my expectations?
Graphics: The graphics are majestic. They're truly the best graphics I've ever seen on a video game. In the sniping level (the second level in act II) the graphics shine. You have to hide in the grass while tanks and men come rolling across a plain, not even knowing you're there, and it looks so real that you're sitting saying out loud, "Holy Crap... please don't find me," they just look so real that it actually feels like you're in the field. People's faces aren't even choppy, each face has a lot of detail and looks like a real person. The guns look great, especially after you get the Golden coating on them, then the gun graphics are even better. The only two complaints are that I wish that the grass when you are prone would move and that the graphics in the Mile High Club would be more realistic, some of the seats and walls look a little choppy, but on the other hand it is a bonus level, so they more than likely put it in in the last minute; still, it's graphics are better than most games, but compared to the rest of the levels, it doesn't make the cut, but the graphics in Call of Duty 4 out beat any game to date.
Storyline: Even though the story line is short (took me 5-6 hrs on Medium), it is masterfully done. The characters, such as Price and Griggs are truly people you look up to in the game, and would look up to in real life. Infinity Ward did a great job of not only storytelling these guys, but also storytelling a story full of suspense, horror, tragedy, and heroism. I don't want to spill the beans on any tragic or key scenes on the game, but I will tell you that it is fictional, it takes place in modern day, and that the US and England are fighting terrorists in the Rural Russia and the Middle Eastern Cities(it doesn't specify where in the Middle East, due to our modern day war, but my best guess is that it's in Saudi Arabia) to initially track down Al-Asid, a terrorist group leader who assassinated a Middle Eastern President. The stoyline is great, and will be played again a lot.
Multiplayer: THIS IS THE MAIN REASON YOU BUY THE GAME!!! Multiplayer is great on XBOX LIVE, it's, dare I say it, better than Halo 3 on LIVE. You will be playing this for hours trying to level up in ranks, because it is much easier to level up in Call of Duty 4 than in Halo 3. Call of Duty uses experience points, but instead of getting 10 exp. to level up like in Halo 3, you have to get (on average) 1000 exp. points to level up, gradually increasing. You do though, unlike Halo 3, get points for completing a match, whether you sucked it up or not. Plus you get 5 points for every kill you make, 10+ for calling in helicopters, and the game usually ends when someone gets a hundred kills or the timer runs out, in which case whomever has the most points wins. Plus, the incentive to keep you playing is that you get better weapons as you level up, more challenges(i.e., kill 75 people w/ an AK-47) which if you complete them give you more exp. points, and higher ranks. Call of Duty 4 has wonderful maps, each bigger than majority of Halo maps, and there are game types similar to Halo 3. The thing that keeps this entertaining is that if you get shot twice or possibly three times, you're dead, but you can have perks where you can have grenades explode when you die or pull out a pistol for a last stand to get more points, it's just great.
To tell you the truth, I was expecting just another Call of Duty game, probably about the same as Call of Duty 3 (on the Wii it sucked), but what I got was better than Halo 3. It was Call of Duty 4.
