What do these ratings mean?

I enjoy alot of shooters, its my favorite genre. I picked up Deep Space because I was looking for a shotter style horror game, plus alot of reviews are great for this game. I'll say this, the game has awesome graphics, BUT only on the scenory and your charactor. The other people in the game look stiff and last gen. The monsters look great too. Now the story is good I love a good space movie. But I cant say that I enjoyed the gameplay. The first 30 minutes I played this game was all it took for me to get board. The game isnt what I consider scary. I even turned the lights out and the suround sound up and I never jumped once. IDK maybe Im just not that scary of old-school jump out at you, scare-tactics. But thats not to say I didnt enjoy it.

THe game is a very slow game. You will constantly and I mean constanly be walking back and forth, infact that is the worst part about the game is not the only complaint I can really say hurt the game for me. Youll be walking, you will get a call from your captain saying that you need to go to a control unit and power it up, so, you set out to turn on a switch. on your way through the corridor covered in blood youll have to kill IDK 3 or 4 of those monsters, so you shoot there legs off and one arm and they die, then you fight one that has no legs but a tail! O-no! what do you do? Well, lets just shoot off its head and 2 arms. Yep that did the trick, so finnaly you get to the control unit and flip the switch only to find that the room your in doesnt have power and the power breaker is in the room you just came through, so what do you do? You turn around and head back to the room you were just in, but as you pass through that same corridor with blood on the walls you have to fight 3 or 4 monsters only this time they JUMP at you from the vents, well after you kill them you get back to the power breaker and flip the power on, then yo gotta turn right back around and head back towards that same corrider fight 3 or 4 more of the same monsters only this time they come from the ceiling and then you finaly get to turn on that switchto power up some crazy control unit that the captain needed in order to get into some room. The game pretty much plays out like that the whole way through. Exactly how you feel right now after reading that is how it felt playing it. Its slow, tedious, and after a few times, it gets boaring.

Now, like I said the story is good. Most of the time it felt like I was rushing through the slow pace of hitting switch's and keycards just to hear the next dialogue. The shooting sections of the game are done really well, alot of people say that shooting the legs off and what not doesnt get old but to me it did. I enjoyed it at first its fun hey what other game can you do it in? But the newness wares then when really thats all there was to do besides flip buttons. They have magic in the game or they call it "kenetic powers" that add a lil fun, you can slow things down and what knot. It makes some puzzles fun, freeze a door so you can go through it because its glitched up and opening and shutting over and over 100 times a minute. Its cool and creative. But I will say this. Slow paced games are not really my type so I did end up taking this game back.

My recomendation to all whether a horror fan or action, I recommend renting this game first or buying it used because if you buy it new like I did from gamestop youll end up losing money by taking it back opened. I give it a c+ story was awesome, graphics are pretty, but gameplay just wasnt varried enough for me. Definitly rent before buying to make sure its what you want.

I feel you judged the game a little iapropiatly. In the review, you categorized Dead Space as an action game, but it's really more of a survival horror game than something like Gears of War.

Honestly Idont know how to catagorize it. In the end it still comes down to a better renter than buyer. As I said I enjoyed it, but from a $60 price tag point of view, I honeslty don't feel like the gameplay itself earns the price tag.
