"Spectres are an Idea, a Symbol..."
Get your space suit on, cuz its time to woo some alien women, and kill some other aliens, WOOOOOH!!!!
Ok so maybe you don't get to do all that, wait, you do, EFFIN' SWEEEEEET!
Mass Effect takes place in the distant future, basicly humans discoverd an 'Artifact' on mars, studing this artifact scientists discoverd a wonderous force, a force that could control the very fabric of time and space, the civilations before them called it...
You take the role of (Insert Name Here) Shepard, a renegade cop who doesn't play by the rules, unless you want to follow the rules, but really, he is a Comander in the Aliance Military, The Aliance Military is Earth's Army, but I digress, Your on the Aliance ship Normandy ready to go into (your) first mission which takes place on Eden Prime, which is suppoesed to be simple you just go, pick up the 'package' and come back, no hostiles expected, but about 15 mins. out when you get a Distress call from Eden Prime, well its really just com signal, you watch as less than 10 men go up against an unknow enemy, only to see them get killed by a 'weapon' never seen before, this just got alot more complicated.
You are being accompanied by a SPECTRE, Special Tactics and Recon, who is here to evaluate you to see if you can become the universes first Human Spectre, He leaves ahead to help you with intel, saying "He can move faster on his own." Once you get to control your own character Blank Shepard, it may take a few min to get your bearings, controls are strange at first, your run very strange and can't manuvar very good until you get used to it, but afterwards you may get used to them and master them, or at least best you can master them, once progressed through the mission you encounter the body of Nhiluss, the Spectre accompaning you, things are looking bad, you make it to the beacon, the artifact you where sent to recover, and something gets triggerd planting strange visions in your head, then the beacon blows up, Mission Failed, its looking bad for Shepard to be in the Spectres now...
Welcome to Mass Effect
That is a small piece of the story line, which is very unique depending on how you chose to play it, you can choose to play a renegade, or play the good guy, or Paragon, Dialouge is great in this game as it allows you to say what you want, as long as its in the options that is, you usually have a Polite choice, nutral choice, and rude, or angry choice, and in certain cirumstances even try to Charm people, or Intemidate them, to get your way, this soo becomes a very important part of the game.
At on time or another you will have to encounter a Mako Mission, on a UNC (Uncharted World) Where you will be tropped to the surface in a 6 wheeled armored and strapped, ATV, a country mans dream, Driving is very difficult in the game, as turn is either to sharp, or unreactive, and going straight is almost impossible, and your only real tactic is either shoot form afar, or circle the enemy for 10 min, and getting shot in the ass.
Combat works like Gears of War, but not quite that smooth, it's not bad but its not always good, though in the more difficult levels in the game the AI is great, snipers stay bqack while Elites, and primes run straight at you and klnock you to the ground, it requires a great level of strategy, and it works pretty good. Definitly worse combat out there.
Graphics look good, although with numerous and frequent graphic hiccups, and horrible loading chunks right in the middle of game play, it can be rather annyoing.
leveling works like an RPG, your class has cwertain weapons and skills from the start, each level you gain unlock "Talent Points" which you can use to progress your classes skills, it works very well, as you can focus on what kind of character you make, even if you make an egineer, or soldier, you may make them only focus opn certain skills, only alotting other skills points once those ar full, so it gives you great flexibility, which is good.
But all in all, its a great RPG, Story Line will pull you in, the Dialouge will leave you sitting there watching them stare at you while you try and pick something to say, Even with the gtraphic hiccups, and sometimes spotty gameplay, its still worth having, buy it, you could do WAY worse.
