For Obsidian's crowdfunded love letter to Infinity Engine games like Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate, I was impressed by its willingness to pull back the curtain and let me see the machinery behind it.

Yesterday, while cleaning up my media center, I found my copy of Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, which I bought sometime before Christmas last year. I had been pretty excited about this game pre-release, what with it being the first "traditional", albeit shorter than usual,...

Ever wanted to rule the world? Ever wanted to see how evil you can be? Well "Overlord" is a game for you. "Overlord" is a game that lets you build your dark domain. With wise-cracks from a jester and advice from your minion master, you start on the road to evil.

A story  that starts out with you being awakened by your minions after a long sleep. Dressed in armour that suits an overlord, you raise you axe and begin your journey. You gain knowledge and learn your controls from Gnarl the minion master. The story starts off a bit slow but picks up quickly. You spend a desent part of your time getting a few things for you dark tower to get it up and running at full. The start of the game gives you the brown minion and you must search for the three other minion tribes. You quickly pick up quests and it stands as a good idea to take a quick trip back to your tower and see what new has come up. You gain a "mistress" that has quests for you that start off slow and a bit easy and she becomes quite demanding as time goes by. Durring your journey you take on the "heros" that killed your predecessor and ravaged your dark tower. The "heros" are questionable as in to what good deeds they ever did. They are each unique in their design and how you must bring each of them to their knees.

The levels are nicely designed with a few different paths you can take to finish the quest. The enviroments are bright and beautiful. There are always plenty of things to break and animals to sick your minions on to get life force, money, and items for your minions. The farther you get in the story, the more you will have to use your minions unique abilities to get by. The music is nice and changes along with each new level and inpending fights. There are fountains scatered around the levels where you sacrafice minions to regain health or mana.

The controls are quite simple for each action and can seem a bit confusing on your first play through. The camera is a pain in the fact that if you forget to hit the reset camera button, you can be a little lost. Learning to post groups of minions in a fight can save your bacon esecailly when your low on health or magic.

You have four types of minions at your command. You start with the browns and must find the reds, greens, and blues. The browns are your warrior tribe and should always be with you. The reds are fire based and have a nice long range attack and need to be kept away from close combat. They can also remove fire that blocks your path. Then you have the greens that are posion based. They can get the jump on enimies and remove posionis plants from your path. Lastly you have the blues. They can go in water and revive fallen minions but they can't fight.

You can purchase items for your tower to make it a bit more your own and have a few things to find out in the worl to get the tower going. The tower heart first on your list to power the tower and the crane to clean up the tower. You have a number of rooms in your tower to check out. The minion tribes stay in the basement, you get an arean to fight in when you want to brush up on your skills or you just get bored, you havethe upstairs where your room is located and a room to purchase the customize items, and lastly you have the forge where you can make new armour or weapons after you find the smelters which give you three different types of metals to use. So go out and build your dark domain and show the world what your made of.
