Kinect Sells 10 Million Units Worldwide

With a $500 million marketing campaign, a strong launch line-up and plugs from the likes of Oprah, Ellen and Hollywood stars, we knew Kinect would be a success. But we never expected it to sell this fast -- faster than the iPad, becoming the world's fastest selling consumer electronics device of all-time.

Microsoft has just announced that the Kinect motion-sensor for the Xbox 360 has sold through over 10 million units worldwide. In the first 60 days on the market alone, Kinect was able to sell 8 million units, which equates to a whopping 133,333 units per day.

Guinness World Records has acknowledged the tremendous sales rate, naming Kinect the fastest selling consumer electronics device, stating that "according to independent research, no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, which is an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector."

It's not just hardware. Kinect has managed to help sell over 10 million units of Kinect game software, Microsoft also confirmed. The device has also helped push strong sales of Xbox 360 consoles since Kinect released in November of 2010.
