A new WarioWare game is coming to Nintendo 3DS. WarioWare Gold was announced at today's Nintendo Direct and looks to feature the same strange, yet entrancing fun as previous entries in the series. Three hundred mini-games will be included in WarioWare Gold, so fans will get to make up for lost time. We also got a release date for WarioWare Gold, so we won't have to sit around hypothesizing on when Nintendo is going to finally drop it.
A WarioWare game hasn't been released since WarioWare D.I.Y. on the Nintendo DS and WiiWare in 2010. Game & Wario on the Wii U was close to capturing that WarioWare magic, but for the most part, fans were disappointed in the middling selection of mini-games.
WarioWare Gold joins the announcements of quite a few other new games on the Nintendo 3DS. For anyone who thought the little handheld that could was destined to be retired soon, this should be a wakeup call. WarioWare Gold will release on August 3, 2018, and some of today's titles won't drop until 2019.
With little competition on the market, there's little incentive for Nintendo to push the 3DS platform forward or retire it. With many companies in the industry that would lead to stagnation, but Nintendo is one of the few game makers that can make a seven-year-old handheld still seem exciting and vibrant.
