It’s that time of year again. According to a tweet from Blizzard, Overwatch‘s Anniversary Event returns yet again this year and is running from May 22nd until June 11th. During the event, players will not only be able to earn new skins, but they will also be able to grab other cosmetics from other events.
This event will bring 8 new legendary skins and 3 epic ones. Only the new pirate-themed Junkrat skin from the trailer has been confirmed and, given the nature of the event, the rest will be similarly random in nature. Anyone who logs in during the event (or buys the 50 loot box bundle) will also get a free legendary loot box, which guarantees one non-duplicate legendary item.
There will be 50 total new cosmetics (sprays, player icons, emotes, etc.) and the chance to grab old cosmetics as well. Although the old gear will be lumped into the same loot boxes as the new stuff, so it might be harder to just nab the newer items if that’s all you want. Old brawls, like the recent Retribution and Uprising, will return and cycle daily in the Arcade for those who missed them last time around.
Blizzard is also adding a new map to the game. Petra, a deathmatch-only arena, is coming to the game and will have a competitive mode with placements, leaderboards, and skill rankings. Like the three brawl maps they added during last year’s event, it will be a permanent addition to the game but, like Chateau Guillard, will be exclusive to deathmatch.
For those not already into Overwatch, Blizzard has something for you as well. The game will be running a free weekend from May 25th to May 28th and will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription for PS4 players. In case you decide to buy the full game, not only will you be able to keep your progress, but you’ll have access to the new Overwatch Legendary Edition. This digital edition will includes some legendary, epic, and Origin skins for a total of 15 skins, helping new players not look quite as new as they are.
