Grid 2 surprised me. I was going through the motions, getting used to the cars and their handling, when suddenly something happened. I started having fun.

Undead Lab's zombie-infested action title has finally hit XBLA. Is it worth a few of your precious Microsoft Points, or should you whack it over the head with a two-by-four and continue on your merry way?

E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

3DS and Wii Dive In Japanese Sales Charts

Posted on Thursday, May 19 @ 15:00:59 Eastern by

When's that new Mario game coming out? Iwata talked about Super Mario 3D at GDC this year but since then we haven't heard a thing. You can bet that that will change at E3 2011, but it seems like Nintendo needs to give people a reason to invest in their machines a little more frequently. Maybe the lack of games and non-committal statements from Nintendo on when the heavy hitters will land is the reason for the downward trend in Nintendo Wii and 3DS sales.

In fact, over the last week, Japanese sales of the Nintendo Wii and 3DS performed worse than any other period in the hardware's lifetime. The 3DS only sold 18,324 units while the Wii tallied a mere 11,520 units sold through according to Media Create. That's a 37% drop for the 3DS from the previous week.

Here are the numbers:

1. PSP - 34,826 (previous: 55,140)
2. Nintendo 3DS - 18,324 (29,149)
3. PlayStation 3 - 13,789 (20,883)
4. Nintendo DS - 10,858 (19,516)
5. Wii - 6,336 (11,520)
6. Xbox 360 - 2,763 (3,419)
7. PlayStation 2 - 1,319 (1,696)

I think it's pretty clear that Nintendo will be pushing software as much as they'll be pushing hardware at this year's E3. Stick with Game Revolution as we bring you the latest leading into and throughout the biggest conference in gaming. We'll deliver the news from Nintendo's press conference this year as soon as it happens through liveblogging. Check out our E3 2011 tag page for what's up.

I wish they would realize they blew it, scrap the 3DS and Wii and concentrate on turning all the potentially great games currently in development for those systems into Cafe games and have the biggest launch ever. There's no shame in doing that, the Virtual Boy is a testament to that. Oh, and please no more gimmick consoles.

@usaglory: They're not giving up on the 3DS... It's a different time. Even the virtual boy lasted a year with like zero games released.

Agreed. Wishful thinking on my part. I bet they are keeping their fingers crossed that Ocarina 3DS will turn the tide. However, if you look at the bigger picture, they will be jeopardizing their 20+ years of dominance of the handheld market.

Give them time. The original DS didn't sell like gangbusters straight out of the gate, either -- probably not even until the DS Lite came out. The Pilotwings demo shown at stores is a pretty good demonstration of 3D. Just add a couple of killer apps (OOT, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart), add Netflix 3D movies, and the 3DS will be kicking behind in no time.
