3DS Extra Circle Pad Priced, Dated; Support on Many Games

Posted on Tuesday, September 13 @ 08:17:20 Eastern by

Although we already knew the right circle pad attachment for the 3DS was coming, we didn't know much else. Nintendo held their pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference last night and spilled the beans on the new attachment.

The "3DS Kakuchou Slide Pad" or "3DS Expansion Slide Pad" will cost ¥1,500, which is roughly $20. It will release on December 10th in Japan, but unsurprisingly, there is no word on other regions at the moment.

Along with adding an extra circle or "slide" pad to the 3DS, it is said to also feature additional trigger buttons. It is powered by one AA battery.

In what be the biggest news of all, the new 3DS Expansion Slide Pad will support a number of upcoming 3DS titles including:
  • Monster Hunter 3 G
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
  • Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble
  • Dynasty Warriors VS
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance
If these games are already planning support, you can expect to see the majority of future titles utilizing the add-on. Also, this pretty much guarantees the fact that there will be a 3DS redesign in the near future that includes the extra circle pad and additional buttons.

Really sucks to be a early 3DS adopter now.

Not too happy about this. Especially seeing RE and MGS on that list. What's gonna happen is they're gonna force us to either play with that clunky addon or buy the new 3ds with it built in. Which means if I upgraded I'd lose all those free games they gave me probably. And I don't really want to upgrade...

How else were they going to compete with the PSV?

How have any of Nintendo's handhelds competed with any of the competitors superior handhelds? It's the games maybe?(not saying Nintendo games are really any better but somehow they keep coming out on top in the handheld market over and over.) Though it will be interesting to see how the two compete.

How the Hell are my thumbs supposed to reach across this thumb bad to get my face buttons? It looks like a huge distance. What am I, Mr Fantastic?
also, anybody who paid before the price drop should get this thing for free, with free batteries for life.

The second analog stick on the PSV is probably the biggest DUH in game system design history. The PSP didn’t have one, and everyone b*tched and moaned about it. Just about every non-motion controller, on the market today has 2 analog sticks. Xbox 360, PS3, and third party controllers all have the second analog stick, in fact I’d say it’s an industry standard. Sony probably didn’t even discuss putting in the second analog stick, accepting it as a forgone conclusion. Then G4’s Adam Sessler acts as if it was some stroke of genius to add a second analog stick to it. No, not a stroke of genius just Sony listening to their customer base, and knowing that if they didn’t add the second analog stick no one would buy it or develop games for it. As I said the biggest DUH in game system design history! Maybe Nintendo is finally waking up to this fact a little too late, and pissing people off in the process.

Right. They should release the 3DS in Homer Simpson Yellow instead of Misty Pink.

Really? It's not powered by the handheld itself? Buying batteries > lesser battery life? I mean both suck. Sucks all around.

A few months from now, once sales of the absurdly large but apparently necessary new bit of hardware starts to wane, they'll release the details for the newly redesigned 3DS2.

In the end this is one big mess for the big N. It wasn't going to be solved with something simple. They messed up and they messed up big time. At least I can say they are moving to fix it instead of just laying around for 2 or 3 more years and let the system stagnate into something even worse in the end.

I just don't understand the idiots working at Nintendo and SONY. How the hell has it taken these morons this long to implement 2 analog sticks when they have known since the Ultra 64 that you need two sticks for movement and camera looking in most games??? I'd have fired the lot of them. No way in hell would I ever buy this piece of junk.
