3DS Has Another Million-Seller as Vita Sales Stagnate

Posted on Wednesday, January 11 @ 17:41:11 Eastern by Heath_Hindman

The PlayStation Vita's sales have been under a microscope since its Japanese launch on December 17, something that will no doubt continue well beyond its release dates throughout the less-important rest of the world as well. For the week of January 2-8, its sales stayed right around the same number as the week before it, though the 3DS saw an increase of about 43,000 units, while the PSP, PS3, and Wii had jumps of around 10-15k each.
3DS: 240,819
PS3: 74,459
PSP: 71,033
Wii: 49,525
Vita: 42,915
DS: 7,536
Xbox 360: 2,738
PS2: 1,323
Meanwhile, the 3DS welcomes another game into the Million-Seller Club, which is not so much a real thing as something I imagine involving a jacket with a crest on the front pocket. Monster Hunter Tri-G sold over 98,000 copies this week, pushing it into seven digits and making it the 3DS's third game to reach the  million mark, right behind Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land.  The top 20 sellers list looks like this:

1. (3DS) Mario Kart 7
2. (3DS) Super Mario 3D Land
3. (3DS) Monster Hunter 3G
4. (3DS) Inazuma Eleven GO Shine / Dark
5. (PS3) Musou Orochi 2
6. (Wii) Just Dance 3
7. (PS3) Final Fantasy XIII-2
8. (Wii) Wii Party
9. (Wii) Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
10. (Wii) Wii Sports Resort
11. (Wii) Go Vacation
12. (Wii) Mario Kart Wii
13. (3DS) Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog / Shiba / Toy Poodle & New Friends
14. (Wii) Inazuma Eleven Strikers 2012
15. (Wii) Taiko Drum Master Wii Definitive Version
16. (DS) Magician's Quest
17. (DS) One Piece: Gigant Battle 2
18. (PSP) Monster Hunter Portable 3
19. (Wii) Rythym Heaven Fever
20. (PSP) World Soccer Winning Eleven 2012

So yeah, in the whole top 20, only four games are not on Nintendo systems. "It prints money" once again. Final Fantasy XIII-2's life-to-date sales total is 739,000, which means in four weeks, it still is just a tiny bit shy of what Tales of Xillia sold in three. That's different

I think it's more the SIZE of the gap that's the surprise rather than the fact that there is one.

Didn't the 3DS launch with a pitiful amount of games as well?

Didn't Monster Hunter gain it's original popularity of PSP? I'm hoping they'll be hopping onto the Vita bandwagon too.

It had good showings on PS2 and Wii also, but yeah, the PSP is where sh*t got REAL.
Sony had better be driving a dump truck of money to Capcom in return for an exclusive Monster Hunter game, or else that crowd is going to jump to 3DS.
