3DS Lineup Is Dangerously Bare For The Holiday Season

Posted on Thursday, August 16 @ 16:23:41 Eastern by

I have already resolved myself to purchase a 3DS XL because there are enough titles I want for the handheld to warrant it. I also understand that Nintendo is and will be swamped with the release of the Wii U, but I fear that as a result the lineup of titles for the 3DS for the holiday season is extremely bare, particularly with the announcement that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate has been delayed to 2013:

Aug 19 - New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)
Sept 17 - FIFA Soccer 13 (3DS)
Oct 28 - Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS)
Nov 6 - Rayman Origins (3DS)
Nov 11 - Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
Nov 18 - Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion (3DS)

These aren't all of the 3DS titles, but none of other ones matter all that much. And I'm already being kind putting New Super Mario Bros. 2 on that list even though it's coming out this weekend as well as putting FIFA Soccer 13 and Rayman Origins (a port of a game a year ago) there too.

Now, this could change with the announcement of the release dates for Scribblenauts Unlimited and Luigi Mansion: Dark Moon; that is, if they will even be within the holiday season.

Anything on that list that you're interested in getting?

The additional sales of the XL is going to put the chokehold on the Vita for a while. This lack of new 3DS titles though could possibly give Sony the chance to catch up, but first Sony is going to have to admit that $250+SD card is too expensive and give the Vita a price cut. I don't think Sony cares what the consumer wants, and is going to keep the overpriced Vita at $250 and waste this opportunity to catch up to Nintendo. Time will tell!

Hopefully they get some titles announced for the Holiday Season. I think 3DS is picking up but it still has a bit of a way to go. Theatryhtym and Kingdom Hearts made me recently start playing my 3DS again.

Vita has nothing i want yet, though i know i am gonna get one in the Fall for Persona 4 Golden.

I'm definitely getting the Paper Mario title. I'm undecided at best regarding all the others.

I think in going to pick up an XL when it comes out, mostly for ocarina of time and starfox 64. Never had a 3ds, any other games people can recommend me?

Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus: Uprising are very good. I've heard good things about, but haven't played, Resident Evil: Revelations and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.

No. I think the only features the circle pad adds to Icarus is for if you want to use your left hand for the stylus. I definitely recommend RE:Revelations if you are into RE games at all.

and most of them are all games that could take u past the new year to beat so i don't see an issue with a lineup like that. RE Rvelations is the best RE game to date until RE 6 but RE Revelations will 1. scare u all the time and 2. u can walk and shoot and 3. 3D visuals are nice
