Beyond: Two Souls Has No QTEs, Is Longer Than Heavy Rain

Beyond: Two Souls, the second PS3-developed title by the team at Quantic Dream, aims to outdo its prior work in just about every way, including the game's length and overall scope.

“I think it’s longer than Heavy Rain because there is more exploration. It’s difficult to say right now because we are, at the moment, pacing the game, so things change and lines are moving." gameplay lead Caroline Marchal told  VG247 at an event in Paris. “But I would say between 12-15 hours of play, depending on the player’s choices.”

At the event, studio boss David Cage revealed some interesting news as well, telling the same outlet that the game won't have quick-time-events. “No more quick-time events. We didn’t really have a problem with QTEs in Heavy Rain and I don’t think that players who played the game had any problem with that, but we wanted to reconsider the possibility of – instead of saying to the player what they’re supposed to do – how could we get rid of this and let players define by themselves, conclude by themselves what they’re supposed to do?" Cage explained.

So then how will the game be controlled? After all, gamers have come to expect loads of QTEs with every Quantic Dream title. “We still have a couple of prompts here and there, but no more than in a game like Tomb Raider, Uncharted or God of War, or whatever because all games use some prompts here and there. It’s part of what gamers are used to these days, but we use them in very few opportunities, and it’s not part of the main interface anymore,” Cage added.
