Arkane Torn On Whether Or Not To Make A Sequel To Dishonored

Posted on Friday, October 12 @ 11:18:31 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Sometimes a game is better left as a single, standalone experience, and Dishonored developer Arkane Studios isn't sure whether or not to go in that direction with the new IP they launched earlier this week.

Speaking with Kotaku on the matter, designer Harvey Smith confessed that he's torn on whether or not they should make a follow-up to Dishonored. "Part of me would love to see future games leverage this world, and part of me would love it if the vault door was just closed and that's it. This is your one view into the Empire of the Isles and into the city of Dunwall," Smith explained.

We here at GR have been discussing sequels and new IP a lot over the past couple of days. Do you think Arkane should move forward with Dishonored 2? Let us know in the comments below.

Dishonored has such faith in its world that it would be disappointing if there wasn't a sequel. It obviously sets itself up by providing an entire map of possibilities; Dunwall is just a blip compared to Pandyssia. Much was also left unsaid about the Outsider and how he influences the world (or perhaps he is the creator of that world). But at the end of the day, it's going to depend on whether Dishonored gets the millions of sales it needs to warrant a sequel. I hope it does, but new IPs always make me nervous.

Yes! I applause Arkane for actually THINKING about doing a sequel, and because of that one little reason alone I'm sure the sequel will be fantastic. They obviously truly care about their world and characters. These kind of studios are very rare.

The world of dishonored has space for sequels that don't feel forced. Even though I haven't played much of it I really like the setting and I'm interested in the universe of dishonored. I like how the developer is considering just leaving it alone which is good because that means they truly care about their work. If a sequel is made it doesn't have to have corvo, but I think a sequel is fitting because it could improve on dishonored, dishonored is great but is missing a few things that could make it GOTY

I don't think every game needs a sequel. The story of Dishonored, while mediocre, (it is an amazing game, don't get me wrong) is still over. It doesn't mean they can't take the ideas they put into it and expand them in another game, I just don't see why it has to be another Dishonored game.

It should get a sequel int he same way that Alpha Protocol deserves one.

As long as it fixes some nagging issues I am ok with this.

Maybe they should make another game, and then think about the sequel for Dishonored.

Maybe after they make a spiritual sequel to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (PLEASE GOD).

Which, honestly, Dishonored kinda is. 70%, maybe. But seriously give me more DMoMM.

I think a sequel would be good if they don't do the here is 60% of the game plus DLC content for the next 6-12 months. If that would be the course of action they should use Dishonored as source material and do a new IP next year. The world can be expanded upon and it was apparent from the beginning that Corvo aint the only one special...no spoilers but that's all I gotta say.
