Assassin's Creed 3 System Requirements Are Promising, But XP Isn't Supported

Posted on Wednesday, September 26 @ 18:12:23 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Those looking to play Assassin's Creed 3 on PC now have some hardware specs to prepare their rigs with, and that might even mean upgrading their operating system.

The hardware requirements for Assassin's Creed 3 are a step up from what we have seen from any other releases in the series, even the gorgeous Assassin's Creed: Revelations. RAM requirements have increased from 1.5GB to 2GB, and video memory has gone up by a substantial 256MB. It's only natural to assume that we're in for one spectacular journey through colonial America.
Supported OS: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core2 Duo E6700 or 3.00 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ or better
RAM: 2 GB (4 GB recommended)
Video Card: 512 MB DirectX 9.0c-compliant with Shader Model 4.0 or higher (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c-compliant (5.1 surround sound recommended)
Hard Drive Space: 17 GB
Besides the moderate requirements, you might also notice that Windows XP isn't supported. This isn't exactly a new thing, and lots of other games are starting to require Vista or later. However, don't assume that means DirectX 11 is supported, because it's not. That's definitely disappointing, but it isn't like we haven't seen a beautiful game in DirectX 9.0c before.

Did they back out on dx11? I read somewhere they even reaffirmed they would have it.

The PC version of Assassin’s Creed 3 will support DX11 and tessellation. To be more precise, the water

Ghost Recon Super Soldier. Then again I can't even get it running on Windows 7. With my recent incidents with Ubisoft's shitty ports (Splinter Cell Conviction and Ghost Recon Future Soldier). I would suggest getting Assassin's Creed 3 for the PS3, or 360. Then again I could be wrong

Can't you just run the Windows 8 beta or whatever?

Good thing I'm getting this on the PS3, not gonna be worried about building a gaming PC until I get enough cash to build some overly ridiculous rig that can play everything at the highest setting. But I'll prolly have my PS4 by then -_-

Roommate just built his for $1400 including his monitor. 3570k and nvidia 670gtx.
The price for a awesome pc that runs every game at max setting has come down a lot. And with developers not really wanted to push games past console levels ,other than recently, your pc doesn't have to work to hard. the end of last year and this year has been much much better for pc enthusiasts support in games so I really do have good visions of the future :)

I have a 2 year old gaming laptop that can still run everything maxed out including DirectX 11 games. PC hardware life lasts a lot longer than it used to.

Until you see what modern games look like that aren't bottlenecked by 256MB RAM and 8 year old graphics cards you have no idea what you're missing.

I was holding onto XP for the longest time, comfortable with it and unwilling to suffer through vista or learn 7. I upgraded to 7 a few months ago and it kicks the **** out of XP. To all of you with XP I say it's time to let go...

I've seen what high end PC's can do with games that are optimized for them, Battlefield 3 at all high settings with a loaded huge battle going on in front on you is amazing, a PS3 is just more affordable but I have a computer build fun and I've toyed around with setups on newegg and watch the sales all the time.
