Assassin's Creed III Reveal Trailer Tomahawks A Red Coat

Posted on Monday, March 5 @ 12:54:23 Eastern by

As promised, Ubisoft has revealed Assassin's Creed III via a flashy, prerendered trailer that puts our newly appointed ancestor in the trees and country side during the American Revolution.

That's right, we're talking bayonets, muskets, and hidden blades. The whole climbing around and jumping in trees thing certainly has me intrigued.

In a statement, Ubisoft writes that Assassin's Creed III is also in development for Nintendo's Wii U console and that the game has been in development for over three years. Our new hereo Ratohnhake:ton, of both Native American and English heritage will be adopting the name Connor as he picks up the mantel of war between the Assassins and the Templars.

Lines are sure to get murky, but the new AnvilNext game engine. We'll be sure to bring more details on the title after we've had a chance to see it for ourselves at GDC this week.

This...has me intrigued. I've always been a fan of the series, but I have to admit that the gameplay was getting a bit stale. This could very well breath new life into the series.

The Free Masons, the Illuminati, the founding fathers, Native Americans, slavery, they all offer so much depth and opportunity. I also hope that you get to take part in large scale battles in open plains. The fog of war and smoke produced by so much musket fire would be a perfect cover for an assassin.

This x 1000. I'm very interested to see what's happening with this one, and I think they're pouring a lot of talent into it, what with a 3 year development time. I've got an appointment at Ubisoft in SF on Wednesday, so be on the look out guys :)

Gotta wonder what faction Washington is going with since it was said that he had the apple at one time.

With the way Revelations turned out, I wasn't too excited about this, but it looks like they may have altered the formula enough to give us something fresh - if wilderness really is a defining part of this game, then it may be as satisfying to explore as Red Dead was... plus the opportunity to recreate scenes from The Patriot is too tempting to resist :)

It felt to me like Revelations had the shortest development time in the series so far while this entry has apparently had the longest development time in the series so far. Hopefully that means something good for AC III.

Oh and if you go put down your preorder now you get a steelbook case for the game the same day you preorder before the game is released. Gamestop, Amazon, and Best Buy of course.

I'm finding it very hard to try not get too excited about this Assassin's Creed (helps that it's my favorite series). After waiting months for Revelations, I came away somewhat disappointed. It was a good game, but it felt somewhat lacking as far as actual revelations (and the Desmond gameplay was horrible, which is a shame, because I find his story to be the most interesting part of the series).

It pleases me to see this has been in development for three years, as I find one-year development cycles worrisome in regards to quality (not that Brotherhood and Revelations really degraded that much from AC2, just a little too similar).

Never really been too interested in the AC series, but my fascination with the American Revolution demands I check this out.
